Fan clutch question
Hey guys, I posted this in the correct area, but have not received much in respones.
My wife drive a 92 chevy half ton 2wd. How can I tell if the fan clutch needs replacing? Any time I pull something with the truck it is borderline running hot (220F) the truck is high mileage, but radiator is in good shape. Even smaller loads that should not stress the engine that much. thanks for the replies

You should be able to turn it by hand (with motor off of course) and feel a decent amount of drag. It should not be locked up, nor free wheel. It should also not "rock" like it is worn out. Make sure the rad is clean, hold a shop light behind it, and look through, you'll probably be surprised at how dirty it is between the fins. Other thing to consider, get a cooler thermostat that opens sooner, so it doesn't have a chance to get that high. HTH,
Squid All this is assuming you still use the shroud, etc and they are all in good working order...
