hey everyone.....quick question. i need help IDn my axles. its a 10 bolt front and a 12 bolt rear....what Dana are these? thanx

The 10 bolt front could be a dana44, dana60 or 10 bolt. This would depend on the year and model of vehicle, if it's an 84, then they are probably 10 and 12 bolts(1/2 ton). The rear is a 12 bolt. The 10 bolt and 12 bolt are chevy axles.

My 84 had a 10 bolt front and a 10 bolt rear. If it is a 1/2 ton truck with stock axles they are not Dana units.

yea i went out to look on the axles them selvs and they just say GMC 10 and GMC 12 so i guess there not Danas...............damn

They are still good axles for the proper application. Keep the tires under 33" and keep it out of a bind and you will be fine. If you plan on abusing it ( or is that called using it to its full potential

) stronger units are in order.

10 bolts and dana44s (fronts) are for all practicale purposes equal. The 10 bolt rear has a slightly smaller ring gear than the 12 bolt it replaced. not any 4wds w/ a dana 44 rear(well my 76 scout had one) a rear dana60 in a 4wd would be 8 lug full float type. a dana60 front would be 8 lug also. both the dana44 abd 10 bolt came as 8 lug versions under 3/4 ton trucks.

see heres the thing.....the guy i bought it from was running 37's. crazy i know. but the truck has no problems turning thoes with the half ton axles. and im pretty sure i culd not run a locker with thoes axles...correct?

If you are wanting a locker I think you are serious enough that you are going to need something a little stronger. Unless you think you can be content with a tire that is 33" or smaller. I have seen people run very large tires with 1/2 ton running gear and never have a problem. On the flip side of that coin....

I run 38.5 and dont really have a problem.I'm not really sure what axles I have.I think they are both 10 bolt.

I kept the drivetrain. Body/bad and chassis are gone. 1981 K30, 350/465/205 dana 60 and dually 14 bolt. Has a G80, and a flat bed. Going to replace the flat bed. 1985 K20, 350/400/208 10 bolt and SF 14 bolt. I wonder where I can find some 1 tons. Hmmmmm
