Gas Prices
With the high gas prices I wanted to know if there was any liquid that would burn easly, sort like gas, but something else. Im 16 and have lots of time and Im working on making my lawn mower run on something other than gas. Thanks.

I know, I was bored when I did that. And no Im not a typical kid, Im not afraid of a little work, Im redoing my 87 GMC that I got for $200. I have pulled the tranny and rebuilt it and reinstalled it my self. Now im replacing the engine, myself. Im painting it myself also, Im doing all the work, needs lots of it too. Just so you dont think Im a lazy ass kid, cause Im not, and I cut the grass twice a week.

iceman7329 you missed the point that milehightoyz was trying to make. When he said "push mower" he meant "get one with out an engine, with the rotating blades." like 1FaastC10 mentioned. The point was if you "really" want to save gas then use a mower that doesn't require gas at all.
To answer your question, there are fuel alternatives for gas motors, but in most cases they aren't going to be cheaper than gas unless bought a in large quanity....

Go Bio-Diesel! Get a diesel engine out of a VW, and they sell kits that will convert the engine to run on vegetable oil. Stop by your local fast food place and they will be happy to let you take their old fry oil (instead of them having to pay for disposal).

Lawn mower you say. Lawn mowers are a good test base for concoctions. You can run a 75 : 25 mix of gasoline and diesel in a mower engine and it lasts twice as long as a tank of regular gasoline. The down side besides the price of diesel fuel is you can only run full throttle or it will ping like a mofo. I had a friend who had a little tiller that he rigged up to run off a propane torch bottle. I havent the slightest clue how he got it to run without a converter.

Iceman... Maybe you should check into getting/building one of these:
http://www.revenoor.com Downside to most alternative fuels is finding them on the road when you go somewhere. Gasoline even though sky high is available everywhere you go. However the above link may provide you some thoughts about fueling your lawn mower, or providing a beverage for when you're finished. Best of luck to you, Thomas Edison was 16 once too and look what he came up with... His method was to keep trying stuff, even though most of it did not work out... Regards, Smitty |
