New pointer for van tilt-how to install??
I bought a pointer for the van tilt I am working on for my '70 Burb and van tilt did not come with a pointer. I bought this new ponter and just can not figure out how to install. Seems like it is too long and do not know what the little split is for on the bottom of the pointer. Any help out there? Thanks!

Remove the black housing and lens. Then slide the white part into the metal opening that is sloped upwards (closer to the dash). You then place the lens on the pointer so that the little "U" shape will ride back & forth on the lense when you shift.
I will try to mark the photos and edit this. Here are the pics. Hope it helps.

Take the 2 screws out of the metal cover (the part with PRNDL), and slide the pointer down into the slot behind it. Reinstall the cover. The small slit fits under the rear bottom edge of the metal cover, so make sure that it is in place before you tighten the screws. It looks like your cover may be installed backwards. I can't tell, but the rear will have a small space on the bottom edge to allow room for the pointer to slide left to right when you shift.

I just sat the metal cover on the colum. It is not screwed down. I did this and the metal cover sits too far forward and will not go back over the screw holes. ??? Is the van pointer hole different from the OE tilt for our trucks?

I agree, it does look backwards now that I stare at it. Once you get it started, you can see where it will ride. It will work or not...can't really screw it up too many ways. It should push/pull out of that hole as you tilt the wheel, so it is always right at the lens.

Just can not get to work. I am wondering if they had the wrong lens on this? Does this look right. It just will not work for me. I can not think of what I am doing wrong. There is nothing for the pointer to slid on that I can see. As you can see, it points forward and with the metal cover on it will not go back far enouth to cover the holes. I am still at a loss. Something is not right.

The pointer fits into, and slides on the metal "surround" piece. Try that.

Make sure you push the white pointer into the slot more. It is meant to slide in and out of the hole as you tilt the wheel.

If that's all the way in, then you must have a piece of the old one still in there. It should simply slide out, but may need a little help.

Glad you got it. I had the same thing, wondering why it sat out so far. Just had to be a little forceful.....
