Who has added power brakes?
I just did the swap, and carefully moved my master cylinder forward and a new booster with brackets to the firewall. Brakes work AWESOME now, although very sensitive. I was wrapping up everything thinking how little time that took, when I noticed my new booster sits right smack over my oil dipstick so I can't get it out!
This is a 3/4 ton truck so the booster is a little bigger than other trucks. When I assembled this crate engine I put the original dipstick from the 1970 engine back where it was originally located. I didn't even think about this during the whole I install of the power brakes. Is my only option to move the dipstick to the passenger side? |

in oeder to move it to the other side you will need an 80 or later block.
get a dipstick & tube setup for a van. then you can check it from the radiator area.

The dipstick was relocated to passenger side in the early eighties, I think. So you would need to build an engine using one of those blocks.

Does Lokar make a flex tube stick for the engine? Or am I thinking of the tranny dip sticks I keep seeing for sale.

Well this crate engine is new enough, perhaps it's considered an "80's" block. It's a GM Goodwrench 350. Sounds like I'm going to have to switch sides. On trucks that had factory power brakes, how did they get around this? It was still on the driver side wasn't it?

Lokar makes a flex dipstick that will run up through your headers or manifolds.
Just an option. http://lokar.com/interior_pages/prod...79dipstick.jpg I've run a few. Last edited by FormerMember; 09-04-2005 at 11:55 AM. |

My truck has factory power brakes and the dipstick has plenty of room. It does curve towards the front of the engine. Also I dont know if it is the stock dipstick that I have.

If you do decide to go to the right side dipstick hole, buy an 88-95 350 truck dipstick and tube at the dealership.
They have a nice curve to them, bolt to the head for stability, and the dipstick has a Tee handle. Cheap too...
