1969 gmc 3/4 ton 4x4 rear axle question

What axles did gmc put in these trucks? I thought they came with eaton rear ends, but I looked at a truck today that had either a dana 60 or a 14 bolt. I was told nothing has ever been done to the truck, it still has the original paint. I just wanted to know if someone swaped rear ends or if some trucks came with these.

but but but, I had a dana 60 that came out of a 71 chevy c20, it was a leaf sprung rear. But in the 4wds what special K said seems to hold true. I guess the consequences of that would be a 4wd GMC never got a no-spin only a powr-loc. Are there any GMC, eaton rear(factory) owners out there?

Buddy of mine has a 71 I think that has the 60. The GMC I got my 400 had a 60. Saw a 72 suburban with a 60 and Powerlok. All 3/4 ton 2wds tho. Found a Chevy 1 ton 4wd with the Eaton. I never counted, but all the GMCs that I've looked at had the 60, and 65 GMC too. Most Chevy's I saw had the Eaton.

Now that I think about it again, I have even seen some GMC 1/2 tons with the D44 rear axle, where the Chevy got the 12 bolt. Guess its a GMC thing.

I always thought it was odd when going through the parts book at the dealer, there would be 4.09,4.10,and 4.11 listings.I also remember there being 4.56 and 4.57.Now I realize it was the difference between a Corporate and a Dana.My Corporate rear was 4.57 and I have a 4.56 Dana.

no and yes, 68 chevy is the same as 68-72 GMC fenders, 67 are the same for both. 69-72 chevy are different. Hoods are the same 67-68 and 69-72.

Most GMC trucks from 1955-1972 got the Dana Spicer rear ends (either a 44 or 60), while most Chev trucks of that era got the corp rears....

1-ton GMCs used the H-072, 3/4 ton leaf sprung trucks would have come from the factory with a Spicer 60, coil sprung will have an H-052. On 1/2 tons the leaf sprung trucks will have a Spicer 44 or the optional Spicer 60-35 and the coil sprung trucks will have a 12-bolt. I'm sure there are exceptions but this is the word according to the GMC literature of the time that I have seen.
