heater delete??
I always thought all vehicles got at least a heater, but my GMC has none. No box under the dash,no housing unit for the core, and no controls (has a delete panel like the radio). It looks like it did have a fan, but why?? Anyone else have no heat?

There were a handfull that came heater delete. In some parts of the country, there was no need for it 99% of the time, and it was probably a pretty good credit when opted without it.
I think it was desertrat who was trying to build a truck with all things deleted...a 0 option 67 IIRC. |

This truck was obviously a power co., state, county or maybe phone co. If it was I figure the company didnt want to make it too comfy. I also figured it to come from the factory that way because the delete plate for the heater control is the same for the radio.

Perhaps it had a heater but it was removed? The fan and associated wiring it a mystery to me. Could that be the radio delete on the heater control area? What does it say on the option sheet?

I want to agree...that doesn't look like something the general would have done back in the day.

It's a mystery to me too. I dont know if there was a fan...but that certainly isnt a factory block plate. It does have defrost registers. By the pic I took of the dash underside, you can see, it dosent look like there was ever anything there.
About the radio delete plate....There are 2, one being where the heater controls are, and the other was laying in the truck.

Don't know about Chevy trucks but I knew a fellow who brought a big late 60's or early 70's Mercury convertible up to Canada from Florida. It had no heater at all and he just about froze to death come winter.

Is the delete panel for the heater controlls the same size and demensions as a radio delete? How is it held on to where the heater controlls should be? I find this really cool, I have never even heard of this before.

Back in the sixties Otis Elevator Company saved $16 by deleting the heater in our company vans in Miami. It still gets down into the 30's down there in the winter at night. We used to go to Sears (they had an account there) and buy the heaters and install them ourselves. The guy that ordered our trucks had a nice air conditioned and heated company car. They were Ford Econoline vans. Don't know about the Chevys

WAY Cool
I'm with Jared on this one, I find it VERY cool. I would love to know more about this option (or lack of one in this case). I sure hope Rod or CPNE or one of those guys gets in on this conversation. Thanks for the pics. Mike

I would assume that they still supplied the fan for defog duty. There would have to be a switch for it somewhere though.

I remember seeing many vehicle in the late 60's even the early 70's without heaters, especially here in the south. When I got stationed down here in the 70's I had a 66 Impala without heat. Like was said a pain without a blower for a defogger. I have seen several from all the manufacturers come that way. Newest I say was a early mid 70's econoline van. It is not just the south either. Even in Western Pennsylvania where I grew up, I remember my best friends dad complaining because his wife made him order a heater for their 67 valiant. To him it was a waste a time and money. Quote
"I'm already wearing a coat, what do I need heat for?" I think if they gave him the option, he would still order them without heat.

... would have been RPO option: C48 Heater & Defroster Deletion, if you still had the glove box sticker.

Defrost would be nice....I dont know if my truck ever had a fan. Someone made a cover for where it would have went. Maybe there was a provision for defrost? It does have the defrost outlets on the dash....maybe just to fill the holes.
