Where Does Your Temp Gauge Read?
Mine reads a bit less than straight up and down on a hot 90deg day with the a/c on. The dipstick is too hot to hold onto when I check the oil. Is this normal?
On a mild temp day 80deg, it sits a tad above the hashed area on the left. replys? |

lmost always to big first line,i call it the 1/4 mark.never been to a halfway.but my AC dont work,thatll make it hotter,but i wouldnt worry about even half,anything past and id watch is real close.

The only stock one I have ever owned seems to not work. The Longhorn will sit and idle for an hr, but the guage will never move.

Oh and the dipstick hot issue,im sure everyone has the problem look what the yubs next to-exhaust manifold.gets hot under there!!!!i use a rag to pull mine

Just put a new sending unit on mine, comes right up into the middle and stays, whether on the highway or idling, 50 deg. or 80 deg. Has not made it into the 90s around here yet, no AC.

without A/C it runs on the first big line (1/4 mark if you will) and with the A/C dead of summer it runs a little above that...it's never gotten even close to half way.
i have a extra-large capacity radiator that's new and a new water pump as well the motor is a new crate 350 with about 5K on it...so it better be running as cool as possible.

Mine runs between the first \ \ marks when it's below 85 out and I'm not parked for a long time...it's got a 160 stat, Summit High-Flow waterpump, 4 core radiator, that's with A/C off. Now, in the 85-95 range, it runs solidly on the second mark unless I stop for too long (when it starts creeping up). No A/C still, since I'm out of freon. =(
I need to get the radiator rodded out. My dad claims it never went past the second \ mark, ever. Once it gets close to halfway (straight up), it starts running like crap. I think it's a fuel delivery problem; sometimes, it gets to the point where I'll stand on it and it just acts like someone kneed it in the balls, revs up then falls right back down and sputters a bit. ------------------ Project 1970 - soon to be seen at http://milhouse.treylis.org:81/

Got 4 core radiator, water pump, and thermastat have never seen it over the upper hash marks, with or without air on. Run's perrty much the same all year round.

It doesn't!!! LOL it's broke! But my add on one reads 165 all the time running it hard, idling in traffic, in 100 degree weather it makes know difference.

mine got up to 220 the other day, and i didnt releize it untill i shut it off and it wouldnt run anymore because when i was going through the feild i was more concerned with not running over cows then what my gauges were reading... but when it was doing right and not getting hot it hung around 165, no ac or power steering

one of the first things you should do to a truck you care about is a aftermarket temp gauge..... i dont trust the stock ones... my truck runs around 180... hotest its ever got is 200

I agree with shag, at a minimum, tempararily place an aftermarket one in there and learn what temp the certian lines mean.

Prior owner(s) installed after market gauge.
So far I only do short trips (5 mi. or less), runs about 180-185. Stock gauge does display, don't trust it, don't pay attention to it. FWIW...don t. ... ------------------ It aint gonna be a trailer queen, its gotta work, just like me. 3/4 ton,350 w/HEI, 79 q-jet, th400. |

Mine has been running towards the middle of the stock gauge. I'm also running a 195 thermostat. Haven't run the a/c much yet. It's time for me to flush the radiator. I Might try running the 165 thermostat this summer (thank Longhorn for that post)
