79'& 80' frontend question

did 80 chevy trucks come with both round and square headlights???? also,, my Dad bought a 79' silverado with round headlights in 79'/80' bezels with a 80' grille. Did some 79's come with the 80 grille???? (if not i guess someone replaced the 79' grille with an 80')

To the best of my knowledge round headlights were available on 1980 models in all trim levels except Silverado. The grill for an 80 can be used on a 79 model according to LMC. You just have to use the correct trim for the grill.

The 79's and 80's first part of year had round head lights. The later part of 80 had the square lights. Like Brad mentioned you can use the same grille. I even changed my front end headlight trim to 78 and previous style to make it different looking. Just changed out the trim around the grille and lights and I was set. Same bolt holes etc.

Yep, some late production year model 79 trucks had the square headlights, and some of the 80 production year trucks had round headlights

Actually, you don't have to "change" the grill trim between 79 and 80. It's the same. Look at the part numbers in LMC. The round bezels are the same, and the trim is the same.

1979 at the end had both. Mostly of the Silverado's had the square headlights
1980 Silverado's had square with it an option on other models. Round was used on base models.

The grilles as noted are identical.

Yeah, they call it a RMC... Rolling Model Change, where the next year's stuff starts coming out a year early... kinda like how you can buy a 2006 vehicle in september of 2005, except not the same.
