Brake help needed.

What causes a noise, similar to air filling a tank, when braking? It sounds like it is coming from under the dash but it could be in the engine compartment. The break peddle pressure feels firm. But I can tell that it is slowly going away.

Sounds like your master cylinder is going out and that sound that your are hearing is the hissing sound coming thru the firewall where the push rod goes thru.

I don't think it's your master cylinder. I had the same problem and it was my brake booster. Read this article to check yours to see if it's going bad http://73-87.com/7387garage/chassis_...on/booster.htm

I don't think that it is the master cylinder because I have good peddle pressure. The more I think about it, the more if feels like the vacuum boost is going out.

If your brake booster was going out, you would feel like you have MANUAL brakes (hard to press pedal) soft/spongy pedal feel is a sign of m/c problems.

If it sounds like air being pushed out, it will mostly likely be your booster.

If your going to change the booster, its only a 30 min change. Unbolt m/c from booster, disconnect the pedal pushrod from booster from under the dash, remove vacuum hose and unbolt the booster from the firewall.
