Can anyone tell me of differences between 67 and 68-72 hoods? I know that the 67's slope down in the front, but will they lign up the same to fenders and grills. I have a friend who is restoring a 67 but likes the higher profile hoods better.

As far as I know, 67 and 68 hoods are the same.

69-72 hoods have a steeper slope on the front, and won't line up on a 69-72 front clip.

67 and 68 hoods are the same with more of a slant, 69 - 72 hoods do not slant back as much and are more square looking. If you put a 67 -68 hood on 69-72 fenders the body lines are way off, the core support is different, etc.

unless you are talking gmc....then all gmc hoods are 67-68 style along with the fenders on the gmcs are same as 67-68 just difference with marker cutouts.

Technically, the '68 hood has a chrome strip along its leading edge, matching the chrome edges of the fenders. '67s are plain. Underneath the gingerbread they are the same thing.

I don't think all 68's came with the trim on the hood and fenders, it was optional.
The only difference I know of between a 67-68 and 69-72 chevy core support is the headlight buckets, not sure about GMC, but a GMC is different from a chevy due to different headlight buckets as well, but as far as I know, the actual core support itself is basically the same. A 67-68 chevy hood will not fit on a 69-72 chevy grill and vice versa. The leading edge of a 67-68 sticks out farther than the 69-72 (which "tucks" behind the grill.) I have seen a 67-68 hood modified to fit a 69-72 and it looked sweet. Don't think I've ever seen anyone do the vice versa. I don't know much about the GMC's but you can swap hood styles with the gmc grills..... right?

Here's an example of that. I haven't asked how he did it, but I think it looks cool....

The radiator support on a 67-68 has places to bolt the apron shield and the headlight buckets are different from the 69-72 (Chevy). Also the hood latch on a 67-68 chevy is different.

The GMC hood from a 67-68 is different from the 69-72 GMC. You can swap them out IF you swap out the grill topbar. I have a picture of this somewhere but can't find it... The GMC fenders are all the same as the 68 chevy (except the missing marker on the 67) ... The hood latch on the GMC are also different. As far as I can tell the radiator surounds on a GMC are all interchangable... but I may be missing something.

He cut the leading edge of the hood completely off and is having to massage it to fit. But it is bad-arse to see it up close!

After I saw Ghetocrewzers 'Burb I PMed him about the mod, and he replied that he used a 67 hood and rough cut it to fit on truck then marked it for trimming... then he will make a filler to go across the front, but he said you can just use the front lip off a 72 hood.

I plan to do this mod also, in phase 2, 3 or 4

I did not know that. I assumed since my truck was an ex-municipal or fleet vehicle, with radio delete, manual everything, 7.00x17.5 rims [so employees wouldn't steal tires] SM465 and 292 L6, that the chrome trim [actually anodized aluminum] was standard. Maybe they got carried away one sunny day at Fremont. Who will ever know? I will say I've never seen a natural '68 w/o the gingerbread, but I'm not infallable.

Hey all, Thanks for all the great input. I'll tell him to stay with the 67 Chevy or from the sounds of it plan on swapping out the whole front clip. I'll also tell him he needs to check out this site and read all of your input, He seems to think that I know what the heck I'm doing, I guess I just sound smart after posting all of my questions to all of you and getting the answers!

Ghetocrewzer with the suburban 69-72 said he is having problems with the 67-68 hood fitting at the back aligning to the cowl panel too. He said he hasn't welded back in the front lip yet but that he was going too. I am interested how it works out for him. I am interested in doing the same to my 2wd Blazer.

I could be wrong but it looks like the hood on that blazer is full length at the center of the nose and as it runs back to the fender it is cut back to line up with the shorter fender nose. I have always been a fan of the 67-68 front clip but I must say I really do like the look of that nose with the 71-2 grill.
