Autometer Electric Gauges?
Just wondering how many of you run electric gauges in your trucks? A friend of mine has the 5 piece autometer streetrod gauge set with all electric gauges brand new and has no use for them. He bought them for his previous project, but sold it over a year ago and they have been in the box ever since. There is a speedo (digital odometer), oil pressure, water temp, fuel (GM sender style) and amp. I will order the matching tach brand new, as they aren't that expensive. Anyone use electric gauges, are there any tricks to them and how do you like them? Thanks!

I just switched over to electric guages and see no problems except the oil pressure sending unit is HUGE. I have the Pro-Street setup with the electric gauges. They are accurate enough for street use, but you need a higher degree of accuracy for racing, so most people use mechanical or liguid filled gauges for fuel and pressure. The guage cluster that I have does have a great appearance though.
In fact I have an extra set of stock gauges that I built a couple of years ago. They look fantastic in a chrome bezel, but just let me know if you or others are interested. I can send pictures if you want of them. I also have a couple of extra gauges. Remember ...they are stock.

I really like my electric Autometers. When you install the oil pressure guage make sure you use a cst iron type tube instead of copper or brass. In time the brass or copper will crack with the large sending unit.

I also converted a few months ago to all electric guages (well...except for the
speedo) from Autometer...I think they are the pro-comp ultra lite version. Of course the oil pressure sender had to be changed. The one I had to use was huge. As a matter of fact it would not mount upright...it interferred with the body of the distributor...so I had to use a 90 degree angle fitting to "lay it over". It works well and gives about the same reading as the old fluid pressure guage. Jim Mt Juliet |

Thanks for the help guys! Looks like I will definitely be doing this swap! Of the stock gauges I have right now, the speedo works all the time, the water temp gauge works most of the time, the amp gauge seems to work, the fuel gauge works the odd time, and the oil pressure gauge is broken and spills oil out all over my right foot and the carpet. As you can tell, I need new gauges all across, including a tach.
