HELP; Replacing ignition module....

First time I have done this...I have a OEM HEI ignition on a 84 C10 -w- 305 V8.....was taking the old ignition module out of the dist, and noticed some "white" paste underneath the module....is this supposed to be there? Is this some kind of high heat, high energy ignition paste of some sort to coat the bottom of the IM???

Thanks..

module

the white paste is called heat sink.usually come's in a small package, smear the back of new module with it and put it on.the module can get pretty hot and the heat sink helps get rid of the heat so new module don't overheat.it should come with new module but check to be sure before leaving store.if you don't use it you will be buying another one very soon...

You da man!!! I was going to get another module this afternoon and was hoping someone would answer this....APPRECIATED!!

I hope this fixes my intermittent starting problem....I figured out it was not doe to the accelerator pump, or something with the carb....was getting gas and the choke was fine......was not getting spark !!! ............I could tap the Ig Mod and then it would crank up.....

It is Dielectric grease and is necessary to protect the module.

No need to do a write-up, swervin already has:
