99 up bed on 67-72

Can someone photshop a 67-72 with a 99-newer stepside bed? I don't know if it's ever been done before or not. I'd like to see how it looks.

What's the bug people are gettin' to put new beds on old trucks? Is there a functionality thing, or do they just like how it looks? I'm not a big fan, but that's just my opinion.

I'm not really crazy about it myself. I was just curious how it looks.

A lot of these trucks were pretty much trashed back in the day (as you all know already) AND anywhere these trucks were driven in road salt and what-not many parts have become rotten on these beds. If you go with an entire repro bed you could spend almost 3K in body parts and a nice bed wood floor and strips. It's a lot cheaper to go to a yard and get a 88-98 stepside bed for 200 bucks with no rust (I heard these beds are fiberglass???) madify a couple of mounts and have a nice new bed. The body lines almost match perfectly if you can live with the wheel arches being different. Plus some people like to be different.

I too have wondered what a 99-new bed would look like. I have yet to see one done. Don't see too many 99-new stepsides to begin with so it may also be an issue with bed availabilty in 'yards.

Edit: I'm going to keep my 67's stepside stock, but I do think the 88-98 bed looks good on these trucks, especially if its done as well as that oragne GMC.

Re: 99 up bed on 67-72

I have a 70 with a 92 bed. This question has a few answers. First I'm 55 so my good young man car days and nostalgia is 85-95. This was a common push the limits modification. Keep in mind this was a new truck's bed. It looks good but needs some work to look finished. Cost my bed is very straight zero rust and cost $250 complete. Weight two people can easily move this bed I carried my bed out of the middle of a u pull it yard with two people helping. Last it's a truck part. Get bored, tired whatever take it off and get a different one.

It wouldn't be so bad if people would retrofit 67-72 tail lights and side markers on their 88-98 beds. But the modern tail lights just look out of place.

Ya, those early 90s beds anyway were fiberglass...
I agree, something should be done with the lights.

Re: 99 up bed on 67-72

I'm curious, the wheel openings will be like the OBS (88-98) stepside/sportside beds, they don't match up at all

I think it's more about being different, custom

Re: 99 up bed on 67-72

Yeah I know it's not a perfect match up. The 99-06 "sportside" bed is one of the best looking stepside beds made in my opinion. I also thenk the 67-68 front end is one of the best looking front ends ever made. If there is a way to combine the two and make it work it would be a perfect marriage in my opinion. Then again, we all know about opinions....

Sorry that it's lopped off, but his is the only one I have on file.....

I'd like a '67 front end on a NBS Reg Cab pickup. Best of both worlds

Re: 99 up bed on 67-72

Hmmm. I would have to get the two trucks side by side so i could take photos and photochop up.

Anyway I did "fix" the wheel well opening on the above posted pic, since that seems to be the biggest complaint on that type of conversion. I always wanted to see what that would look like.

Sorry Andy, I knew it was crappy pics to work with but it was the best I had. As many 67-68 truck pics as I have on file, none of them are good clear side shots. I alwyas shoot 3/4 front and 3/4 rear pics.

Since the attachments aren't working for the moment I can't see you chop job. I did notice that the NBS wheel opening is much closer to the 67-68 than the 88-98 bed is .....

Zumo, next wheel re-radius.

Funny but I would re-radius the front to update it to match the back! Any chance you could?

Thanks. To bad the bed is so dark. It's hard to tell how it really looks, but so far I like it. How about a 67-68 front end????

I'll try again, but it was the only bed and body match I could find that were at some similar angle.

Thnaks. I'm not trying to complain since I do appreciate your effort. I just feel that this match up may be closer than we think.....
