saftey matters
as some of you know i have been working on a replacement frame for my 86 swb i notice the other night that one of the cab mount brackets on the frame has really big hole in it where the others are about a 2 in circle my ??? is can i just bolt another one on with grade 8 bolts and not have ANY problems in the future if this is not safe enough please tell me and i will work on welding in another piece of metal and then cut out another hole but that sounds like a lot of work compared to the grind, bolt, and be happy. thanks in advance and please give me all your comments on this subject to help me make my mind up with what im going to do.

You can use what is called a flange or frame bolt with a flange nut. The grade for the bolt is grade 8 and the nut is grade C. They should fit very snug in the hole, not so you have to hammer them in but they shouldn't have a lot of slop. Fine thread if you can find them. Use the standard grade 8 bolt torque for that size and it will be should be fine. If you look at the over the road trucks most every frame part is bolted not riveted.

It "sounds" like someone replace the mount with one from a early model frame.

kaos i believe this brace is the original it is riveted i am just concerned about the hole being too big and causing me trouble with the cab mounts it is a bigger hole than the others. when i got this frame there was a cab on it but just sitting not bolted so i dont know how the cab mount set in the hole. basically my question was will i be safe if i bolt a diffrent bracket on the frame that has a smaller hole in it before i mount the cab up if bolting on another one is not safe enough then i will try closing up the hole somehow just let me know i have some time before i need to really know this. thanks for your help and comments
