Engine color

Allright, I been getting alot of flac from a friend on my choice of engine color. Due to some bad luck the engine is coming out for rebuild, and I'm looking for opinions on color choice. My friend say's orange, ( cause he might want to buy it next year when I get my new one), I was thinking black maybe. How about you guy's/girl's, what color would you go with?

Re: Engine color

I went crazy! I painted mine metallic blue to match the color I going to paint the truck! It depends on your choice and what you like, it's your truck paint it whatever tickles your fancy. Black looks good with alot of chrome, orange looks good too.

They are chrome, bought them, washer bottle holder, upper and lower hood latch, park brake assembly, door hindges, and door latches all freshly chromed for $50 Canadian.

Thank's for the input, I'll likey make my choice when I'm standing in front of the paint section at the parts store.

Thinking about a medium to dark grey, I think thay would look good, next motor will have aluminum heads also so it would even look better with them, and headers are getting ceramic coated.

The small block in my '65 was bright yellow. It looked great.
My current truck has a black one.

Re: Engine color

I like orange, but my BBC is black and it helps me to understate the wickedness of the motor. I used the OE cast aluminum valve covers that are already powder coated black, as well as a 97 BBC factory serpentine belt system. At first look it appears stock, then the reality of my subtle goodies become appearent. I love chevy orange and in a black engine bay they look sweet, but green or blue or any other color firewalls and you should stick with black.

No offense, but look at the green truck above, orange and green do not go together too well, IMO. I had a 68 Burb, but the firewall was saddle (light copperish) and the orange went OK against it, I would say paint it whatever color you want and to heck with what we all think it's your truck.

Re: Engine color

I use black with a clear coat but if I was going to sell it later and the guy wants orange then orange with a clear coat would be the color of choice. A clear coat really makes the color pop out along with all the accessories between you and the block.

Anniversary Gold or Ochre! I will bet money that nobody has ever painted an engine Saddle Fawn! Don't follow the crowd...what the heck do you care what we think...it is your truck! Was it NSANE that painted his engine ELECTIC NEON GREEN with purple highlights? Very cool...I hope he posts a picture of it!
