Talking Progress Pics: Paint!

Well, I finally made some good progress and got the firewall and interior of my cab painted. The "smooth" firewall project turned out to be a lot more work than I had planned, but I'm very happy with the result. The first picture was taken after welding up most of the holes in the firewall. The color is Regal Turquoise, which is a 1955 Chevy car color (I'm using Dupont Basecoat/Clearcoat). I hope to put the cab back on the frame tomorrow and then start the rest of the bodywork. Whewwwww.... it's Miller Time!!!!!

Looks great. Nothing like those in progress paint/body work pics to get my juices flowing. Too bad I have to go to work soon. LOL

Thanks guys! I was originally going to paint it orange, but after seeing about 6 orange trucks at a local cruise one evening, I decided to go with turquoise......... wanted to be different. Hopfully I can get the cab back on the frame today, then I'll take some more pics.

Good work... where are you going to run your wiring harness? I've also smoothed my firewall but have not yet committed to where my electrics are going to run. I was thinking of running them down the left frame rail to the back of the cab and coming in there, but...

Kenneth, I'm not sure either as to where I'll run the wires. I'd like to run the headlight/parking light wires through the side of the cowl, then up inside the drivers side fender. As for the engine/starter wires, maybe through the floor and along the frame, like you were saying.

Wow! I rotated the tires once and thought I had accomplished something. Can't believe how much work and time that must have taken.
Dumb question probably, but did you have the doors on when you painted?
Congratulations.

I'm in the process of smoothing the firewall on my 68. It is slow! I hope mine turns out that nice. How do you plan on mounting the fuse box? Spacing it out? I can't decide on a good "new" location for it. Looking great!!

For the fuse box, I was also thinking of building a plate with the same opening as was in the firewall... and mounting that parallel to the firewall, a few inches in from where the panel is supposed to mount. That way all the wires are essentially where they were supposed to be in the first place. Then, I could drop the underhood loom down the firewall on the inside of the truck near the transmission hump, then shoot through the floor such that the bundle could be hidden inside the cab stiffener on the front/botton on either side of the transmission hump (the sled looking things at the bottom of the firewall under the hood-- they have a channel on their inside edge that might hide the loom).

I've got a ways to go before I need to worry too much about that though. If you come up with any other ideas, I'd love to hear them.

Thanks,

Kenneth

Looks good Slammed! I only hope that I can do the same to mine within the next month or so. I think you and I are on the same track (smooth firewall and all) and are at about the same point......... you got me beat now with the paint....I got to get busy!
