The Brooks kit from all I have heard and seen - haha. I cut them from 5/16' plate. I turned them 45 degrees to the front and guess what, with little changes the 83 camaro rear calipers accept my 67 emergency brake cables (removed 3" of spring from each side). I do have to adjust them about 3' shorter each up front. The pads are from an 88 s10, the rotors are 88 chev 4wd light duty fronts, and the calipers are 82 Camaro rear w/e-brake. Flex lines are from a 78 impala front. I had the axle flanges turned down to accept the rotors and future replacement. They are now hub centric. Total cost of parts about $350 - includes $50 worth of lathing the axle flanges. Here are some pics. I hope to get it done this week. Will post some final pics next week if any one wants

I am not going to push the emergency brake bracket into the mount until I know the brakes are working properly -- too dang hard to get out. May be easier to just remove the fulcrum from the caliper.

Why are you having to run such a thick spacer, you planning on using wheels off of a new silverado or something to that effect?

I run a 1.5 inch spacer to even out the back with the 72 spindles on the front. I run 6 lug 15x8 ralleys with no problems. There was a thread on spacers a while back and it was determined that each 7/16" lug properly torgue can hold 11, 000 + lbs x 6 lugs. No fear of them. If you use bone stock wheels most likely you will have to run at least a 1 inch spacer for the caliper to clear the rims front and back. I need to see if my 82 front disc hydro master cylinder is sufficient or if I will need the 83 Camaro with 4 wheel disc. I know the 83 front disc master cylinder is aluminum with fttings on the motor side. The 4 disc looked like cast iron. Would like to have an aluminum master cylinder with see thru fluid level.

All bolts used for mounting brackets are grade 5 fine threads with lock washer but grade 8 are even better.

If I am going down a wrong path on parts grouping someone let me know.

Disc brakes aside....

What are you doing with that booster in the background? It looks like you're fabricating linkage and brackets for it. That don't look like the factory ones. Please offer more details and/ or pics....

Not sure about the faq page but I will give a complete listing of compatible parts as soon as I settle on the master cylinder whether anyone wants it or not. The 82 impala rear drum may not push enough fluid to the rear disc. I think I have all fitting leaks stopped. May put it on the road --out of garage and around block --tomorrow- will be on honeymoon a while. Will make a trip to oriely's for sure -- in wifes yukon--to compare the 83 camaro master cylinder. About $25 includes core. Would bump things to $375 for all new or rebuilt parts. I had 5 bucks in the 5/16" steel plate for 2 complete sets of brackets and about 4 hours in making a set--plasma cutter would have been nice. Used torch, grinder, drill press and mig. I sent pics of my junk --guys post some of your successes. 8-) I kinda like staying on the suspension threads as you get run over on the 67-72 message board -but ok tho.

Oh, missed yours TX firefighter, I put disc and a 66 booster on my friends 66. The Cardone rebuilt comes with the mounts but not the fulcrum. Soooo I fabricated one with a zerk. I since have a spare 71-72 fulcrum. From doing several mods on different boosters for a 67-72 I have found out that the rod to the pedal is 8.5 inches from the firewall to the pedal hole center. I have a 84 fiero with an aluminum master cylinder that appears would be an easy swap. Matt has some interest in going to an aluminum master cylinder- may be the route. I also found out that without the stock fulcrumm you need to drill anither hole down farther on the pedal to get enough movement to keep the pedal action closer to the beginning of push. Braking ends up being the same either way.

The oem emergency brake cable is better than 2 " from the tire and goes toward the frame. The front disc master cylinder seems to be ok in the short run --need to drive and find out what it takes to lock up the rear wheels. I still have to finish removing 3 " of slack from each side--I think I can get near all of it with the adjuster using a bushing for more thread gain. The 83 Camaro must have had 15" wheels as the caliper would not clear anything less. Since the rear calipers are identical, I had to remove and block the pads on one side to invert it to bleed it out. The mount brackets can be made with 5/16 or 3/8 steel plate.

Am finishing mine up this weekend ---- you will need to remove proportioning--- or if adjustable --- give full pressure to rear also. Can be tweaked with an adjustable prop valve. I will be finishing mine completely this weekend. I installed a 1 1/8" bore master cylinder --- used a 76 corvette that had disc brakes all around. May not be necessary depending on what you have. I am also going to grind off the bracket rivets on the trailing arm and move the E brake housing toward the front before I finish the e-brake.

Hit me with a PM in a month for any additional info/results I may gather. I would recommend cutting them out of 3/8 plate (allows more caliper thread. --then reduce your spacers to 1/2" or 7/16".

67 6-luggers - E-Brake

I had to shorten the rear e-brake cable 12 inches. I will compress the two nicopress sleeves once I borrow a tool. 2 stainless saddle clamps suffice until then. I lubricated everything on the ebrake cable. 13 - 14 inches shorter may may have been better. As you will notice I moved the front trailer arm mount forward about 5 inches. I put a sleeve on the adjuster for more movement-- last pic. It would have been nice if the oem ebrake had about twice as much travel. I had to preload the 83 Camaro calipers ebrake but when relased the drag appears to be ok. Will no doubt have to readjust one way or the other. Time for another test drive.

67 6-luggers - E-Brake cable

I finalized on shortening the interim ebrake cable 13.5". To keep it clean I decided to cut off one cable end and swaging a new stop on it. You can buy swages or nicopresses but I wanted a steel end on a steel cable. I used 3/8" OD plated rod and drilled a 5/32" hole in it. You can use a Nicopress or swaging tool of the correct size. I then welded the 1/8" slack end past the swage to the stop. Not sure of the pull strength but it is a heck of an attempt.

Dennis,

I thought I was the only person who knew what a nicopress sleeve was. I haven't heard anyone else use that term since A&P school 11 years ago.

Are you an airplane mechanic too?

I was on the line crew/plow crew at GTE for 17 years - retired after 31. The only thing they use the nicopress tools now are for 10ga and 14 ga ground wires. Probably do not use them at all... We used them for 109 steel, 104 copper, and 080 copper clad open wire. Am getting old. I have a swaging tool if you ever need to borrow it. The 109 sleeves (coated steel) would work fine on the 1/8" cable. Will see if my mom has some of Dads stock when we go back to Ohio for Xmas. He worked at GTE for 37 years.

According to my 2 rulers--- if 139 mm is not 5.5" --it is so close that it should not be a prob. I do know Toyota 4wd 6 lugs will take Chev 6 lug ralleys as that is what I had on my previous 86 Toy.

Pics of 76 Corvette MC and finished shortened and swaged intermediate e-brake cable ready for install. No doubt I would want it 1 " shorter or longer. I usually get it right about the 3rd try.

Matt, am ready to torch out your brackets and I will splice my old intermediate cable the correct length for your use.

The brooks kit looks good. Those calipers look alot like the Eldorado calipers I used on mine. Do you have any more pics of the e-brake setup? I have not been able to locate any and looking to make my own. Maybe some pics will give me some ideas.
