Re: glasspack????

Yes you can turn them backwards, yes it will make it louder, and yes it will sound like a string of firecrackers on steroids.

Re: glasspack????

doing that is pretty much the same as no mufflers at all....straight pipe.
My GMC was like that when i first got it, sounded stupid.

Re: glasspack????

I did that on my truck, been getting away with it for over 6 months too. Bought a short 18" glasspack at the muffler shop and got him to expand one side to 2.5" and it exits straight out the muffler, it's loud as hell. I was driving to my friends house out in the country and he said he could hear me coming for about 3 minutes till he actually saw me driving up the road.

Re: glasspack????

Easiest way to make a glass pack louder is to shove a garden hose in it and fill it with water. Remove the hose, start the engine and wrap it up. It will blow the fiberglass out. But then you have to ask why you put them on the truck.

Do all the chunks come out eventually? Also how do you know when they are full?

Re: glasspack????

If it's a louvered (on the inside) glasspack it makes a difference. If the openings in the louvers are to the rear, it's a little less restrictive and a little louder. If it's a smoothly perforated glasspack, it makes no difference.

Re: glasspack????

Mine are 2.5" x 12 " with louvers inside. They didn't come with any instructions so I pointed the open side of the louvers towards the rear, figuring that would give the best air flow. I recon they flow pretty well.

At idle they are much louder than a typical engine and if I drive it without stepping on it they are just really loud. But if I put my foot in it we are talking NHRA loud. As in deafening.

Considering the 10 series are real loud does that mean a Flowmaster 50 series is quieter than a 40 series?

Re: glasspack????

Thanks for the video. I just watched and listened and I think the 50's are for me. I bought my truck in 2001 (396 ) with straight through bottles on it and they are still there. They exit sideways behind the rear wheels but the truck is loud on the Highway. I'm gettin' old and its time to tone it down. Do you have a video like that for Magnaflows?

Re: glasspack????

I had short glasspacks on a truck and hated them. They were TOO loud! Now I have an everyday run of the mill muffler and I love it. Nice and quiet.

Re: glasspack????

I just put on dual Cherrybomb Vortex mufflers and cheapo hedman long tube headers. Come out in front of the back tire. It sounds awesome. Although to be fair Ive only driven it maybe 5 miles on surface streets since the exhaust work.

You beat me to that too, I am only 28 haha. Kidding aside same here I want something of a healthy sound and easy on my sbc350 so I can use as a daily driver and not be annoyed of a loud straight pipe sound.

Re: glasspack????

44s or 40s brought all the way back sound good and are smooth, not real loud unless you are behind the truck. 50s would probably be good for you old farts, just kidding, im 20, so im right in the beginning of my hotrod/drive like a retard all the time days. i may go 10s on my truck and dumped 45 in front of axle. trust me, on some days i am an old man and hate my pipes on the daily driver straight piped dodge, you have those loooong days at work(i work in a hangar on planes/or out on the tarmac), and you just wish for piece and quiet, but have to deal with under the cab roar.
