edelbrock carb questions
Hey guys, i just put an edelbrock 600 cfm electric choke carb on my 71 chevy 1/2.
the problem is, it just seems like it isn't enough carb, the carb is all factory, never been torn apart, only a year old. What can I do to this carb to make it feed the truck better? thanks, Kyle |

Re: edelbrock carb questions
I had the same problem. The 600 cfm 1406 electric choke is an emissions carb. The 600cfm 1405 manual choke is a performance carb and is jetted richer. I have the 1406 and can't get it jetted rich enough even with the kit.

Re: edelbrock carb questions
My thought is they come out of the box to RICH!. A 1406 on a stock 350 will run rich and foul plugs, black smoke till it is leaned out a bit. A 1411 on a BB(402 and 502) does the same thing till it is leaned out a bit. They really like fuel, and when the secondaries kick in they are flat- no real jump from the box. My next step is a AF indicater to see exactly how it is running. JMHO

Re: edelbrock carb questions
Not to mug the thread, but I have otb 1406's on both my stock (I believe) engines and they are both rich at this elevation (5000'). Any recommendations on a jetting upgrade? Also, how important is fuel pressure?

Re: edelbrock carb questions
I have run both a 1406 ,and 1411 and neverr had any problem's .
The Edelbrock will not give us the Kick in the pants the Q-jet will when we stomp it the Q-jet secondary's are massive . Here is a link to jetting the 1406 . Blazerparts ; Also, how important is fuel pressure? The Edelbrock recommends you keep fuel pressure below 5psi ( this is from memory check their site to be sure ) http://www.edelbrock.com/automotive/eps_1406.html

Re: edelbrock carb questions
I've tried the Holley's and qjets and now I just bought a 1406
so in the spring when I put it on I'll cross my fingers. As of now I like the Holleys...

Re: edelbrock carb questions
You almost always have to rejet those carbs to get em just right. You also may have to adjust the accelerator pump stroke and those little springs that control when the metering rods come up for the secondaries. Once you get it dialed in, it won't give you any trouble for years. I've had my Carter AFB for 12 years now and all I have to do is douche it with carb cleaner every so often.
