power steer pump seal replacement

I am going to re seal the power steering pump on my 1972 4x4 it has a 350. I was just wondering if there were any tips or special tools needed so I don't take the truck out of commision for more than an evening. Without looking at it, I assume that it is as simple as just removing the pump and using a puller to get the pulley off then replacing the seal.

Thanks in advance

Curt

Re: power steer pump seal replacement

I had a leaking power steering pump on my '86 GMC. I asked a local engine builder if he knew any tricks to make it quit leaking beause I didn't want to take it off. He said pour a little brake fluid in the reservoir. I said you're kiding. He said nope, it makes the leaking seal soften up and start sealing again. Well I tried it and that was nearly 2 years ago and I've never had one drop of fluid leak out of it since.
