brake bleeding issues - The 1947 - Present Chevrolet & GMC Truck Message Board Network

this is not for one of our trucks, but I am sure it should apply....I had to replace the rear wheel cylinders on my 93 oldsmobile....and for some reason I can't seem to get pedal feel back to where it should be. I replaced the rear wheel cylinders, the front rotors, and pads and shoes on all four corners.....I have bleed the system started at the rr, lr, fr, and the fl corners of the car....and the pedal still goes almost all the way to the floor.....any suggestions?
I wasn't sure if I needed to bleed the fronts, but after just bleeding the rears, the pedal was on the floor, so I went back and did all four corners.
The problem, when the car is off, the pedal feels firm after initial bleeding.....when I start the car....i get one or two good firm steps on the brakes.....then its right to the floor......best and brightest.....help would be appreciated!

Is it possible that the master cylinder would just go bad without any symptoms? Short of being caused by adding fluid while bleeding the brakes.....what are the odds it would just break during a brake replacement?

Does the car have Antilock breaks. I know my GMC, I couldn't ever get it to bleed right becuase of that. They say it requires something special from the dealer.

no abs.....it doesn't even have overdrive......very plain......and yes, I have bleed brakes before

yes they can when you are bleeding the brakes you can "overstroke" the master cylider which baslicy mean that when your bleeding you push the cups in the master cylider farer then they normally do and ppast where they normally stop is gunk and rust which will eat up the cups. its not uncomen to blow it mc while bleeding. they say to bench bleed the new mc but i install it in the car if possible fill it with fuild but the bleed kit on it and have someone out side watching for bubbles while i slowly push the brake pedel
