dual exhaust

I want to put dual exhaust on my truck (’81 swb). Should I put another cat on it? What are the laws in CA. I tried the looking at the CA DMV vehicle code but I couldn’t find anything about it.

Re: dual exhaust

If you aren't concerned with how well it flows, the stock downpipe and cat flow pretty well.....just split it at the muffler. If you want true duals you probably have to put cats back on. For trucks that age...it seems pretty standard around the country to require cats at least for a couple more years.

Re: dual exhaust

I've looked into it and our trucks MUST have the Y-pipe from the factory and ONE cat. It is ILLEGAL in California to put two cats on our trucks. True dual, H-pipes, and X-pipe are also illegal. It sucks but the great state of Kaleefornya doesn't like to make it easy to modify cars.
