I am not getting paid for this, but whenever the discussion about the Eaton comes up, the 3.90 gearsets are mentioned, but usually "they've been discontinued." well, I think they are still being made....

pricy at $350, but they are brand new.

so I guess this is just an FYI for anyone who thought these aren't made anymore.

Good to see the price coming down, and that they are available again. They were around $600 a few years ago. With that price drop, I would assume they're now being cut overseas.

It seems that a lot of people are wanting to go with more of a highway gear in the Eatons. I have also heard some people say that 3.90 is as high as they come. Well, I did find a set in a 70 C20 and they happened to be 3.73 and I looked in my GM catalog and they listed a 3.56 to even be available in some of the old Eatons. This may or may not be some helpful info for all of us junkyard rats willing to search around and get some better MPG out of our old pigs.

I was not aware of the higher gears for the Eatons, but a guy off of Pirate4x4 scanned me a page of his '63 TSM and it shows an optional 5.86 gear ratio for the H072. I am guessing that this is another hard to find gearset.

i have 4.10 in mine and just got a 3.54 dana 60 coil to put under it if i dont sell it

I just saw on another board where a guy says he has 2 3rd's with 3.55's.I have never seen one and I've looked at dozens.I have seen a few 4.10, lots of 4.56's,and some 5.14's but never a 3.55'. Was there ever a 4.88'? Most say there wasn't but I know a guy that claims to have some.

there's an international harvester axle that looks alot like the Eatons, called the RA-15 or something, that has 4.88 gears. maybe its that? they are pretty similar overall.

I'm keeping the 4.10 rear in my truck as long as it keeps working, it doesn't do too bad on the highway with 33's.

3.90 is the best you can get for HO-72. 3.73 and 3.54 were Dana 60 gears.
