8-lug disk swap...
![]() I searched and didn't find anything on this so I apologize if I missed something. I am trying to find out if the 71-87 8 lug disk brake parts swap, like the 1/2 ton parts do. I have a 68 C-20 with the Eaton 1 ton rear. I am turning it into a dually wedgeback car hauler to take my streetrods to car shows. I once found a site online that carried a kit that included drop spindles, rotors, calipers, but have since lost the link. Any help here would be greatly appreciated. Thanks Jeff. www.twistedmetalfab.net Last edited by smokie347; 12-01-2005 at 04:45 PM. |

Re: 8-lug disk swap...
Use the 73- 3/4 parts, they will swap easily plus parts are cheaper and you have rubber bushings in the control arms, so they ride better. As far as dropped spindles i would check with one of the vendors on the board. If it was just for show I wouldn't worry so much about the spindles but if you plan to use it for towing I would make sure that you use a high quality spindle. There is such a range from bad to good quality on spindles.

Re: 8-lug disk swap...
I think I am going to skip the dropped spindles. I am running 10 ply 235/85/16 tires in order to get the weight GVW limit up where I need it. When finished this truck should have a GVW of close to 18,000 lbs. I am hoping to be able to have one car on the wedgeback, and another in the 24ft trailer behind it. I am also considering a Duramax/Allison swap, if I can find a good donor truck. Thanks for the help. Jeff.

Re: 8-lug disk swap...
With those loads, the dropped spindles will give you problems down the road. With the later model swap, it's just like the 5 lug, except using 3/4. I would look at some high performance brake pads, they are cheap insurance and do stop better, just make sure that they are for towing applications.
