Re: which would look better???
yes rather common but the chrome ones usually look bad (faded or white spots) from where someone has tried to clean it with the wrong stuff. i never could find one that looked any better then mine unless i paid big bucks for it like bigarmzz said.

Re: which would look better???
I like the looks of the chrome one, but mine has the white spots. I got a PERFECT one from a junkyard about a month ago for about $6.
I used a clean, white, cotton cloth dampened with water to clean the dust off. It apparently has some kind of clear finish on it that flaked off. Now it looks worse than the one on my truck. I plan to see if I can get all of the finish off and then spray it with some clear enamel or something. Be careful cleaning a chrome one if you get it used. Oh, and i have seen two new ones bought by friends through the dealer. They have a bronze looking finish that does not look right. They are also around $100. Ouch! Slonaker |

Re: which would look better???
84 400: I like the brushed aluminum look or the wood grain over the plain black. Just my preference. I have the brushed aluminum trim in my 82 Silverado and the woodgrain trim in my 77 Blazer Chalet.
Slonaker: Another thing you don't want to do is try to mask off the brushed aluminum to protect it when working on other areas. I used the green 3-M tape on mine to repaint the black area below. When I removed the tape some of the brushed aluminum finish came off with it. I'm going to order the repair kit for the bezel that ChevyDuty sells on Monday to see if I can salvage mine.

Re: which would look better???
I had a few scars on mine. I took the "Brushed Aluminum" trim off and it was like a brand new "Black" panel. Made my lower column filler look a little faded though. Luckily some black rattlecan solved that.
