Can anyone help?
I have a 71 blazer with a 350 4bbl edelbrock carb. I'm having a problem with it stalling out. When I start it to let it warm up it starts and runs fine then when I give it gas it will die. It starts right back up and will idle great but take no gas. If I let it warm up abot 10 more minutes and feather the gas it will start running fine and then it's good to go. The blazer has done this twice so far in two weeks but only after i have filled up with gas it does it the next day. Any ideas or suggestions? Bye the way it's an electric choke. It has been cold here around 10 degrees but this past week is the only time I've had a problem. Thanks Josh

either flooding or starving, sounds like starving. fuel filter is the place to start for sure.

The choke is not closing, or it is opening way too fast.

It is a stopped up port in the intake that comes off the exhaust from the cylinder heads. Pull your intake off and I would bet that they are stopped up with carbon deposits. There is a port on each side of the intake. Once you dig all the carbon out of the intake and look in the opening of the heads and get what you can. I usally take a shop vac and screw driver to suck it out as I loosing the deposits up in the cylinder heads. With the ports being clear again the carb. will get the heat at the base and you won't beleive the difference. Jim

Start with the fuel filter and then lube everything in site around the electric choke.

Have you looked into the carb body for icing?
Any carb heat available? Stove pipe? Try manually holding the choke plate open to see if that changes/helps the problem. Is the accelerator pump working correctly? (squirters) I'm betting on an icing issue... |

I changed the fuel filter and adjusted the choke on tuesday and have not had a problem since will keep an eye on it to see gow it goes. Thanks for all of the suggestions. JOSH

When cold that choke needs to be closed and wide open once well warmed up. If the engine is at operating temp and the choke is wide open, the bugger should accelerate decent if the accelerator pump is functioning. Keep in mind that the carb runs off the gas in the bowl of the carb so that a clogged fuel filter will usually create running problems before it creates starting problems. Another common problem is water in the gas which freezes and give you all kinds of issues. A little dry gas dumped into your tank will not hurt this time of year up there in WI.

Had to replace fuel pump today went out may have been the problem all along. Thanks for all of the replies and suggestions. Josh
