original or poly?

I have great bushings in the front of my 69 but when I lower it I was wondering if poly would be any better than the greaseable ones. I am planning on using 87 drop spindles and need to change the ball joints to make it work. If there is no advantage to poly over stock ones in good shape I will just put that money some where else.

It seems I've been told in the past, the poly has a longer life and is less likely to squeak.
I'm told they are worth the extra expense.

Poly will last almost forever. It is unaffected by oil and road grime...to include salt. I wouldn't even think of getting rubber, onless it was a 100% restoration.

Poly should come with lube.If not get some for it.All the info I have found says the poly will stay quite and last forever if you lube it well.

Sorry guys I don't think I made myself very clear. I have the original front control arm bushings that have no rubber in them and are greaseable. I can eliminate them by going to the 87 control arms and putting in poly bushings.
The present bushings do not need replacing,I would have to only change the lower ball joint to make my 87 drop spindles work.
Do I replace the original control arms with the 87 and poly bushings or replace the ball joint and keep the metal greaseable bushings.
How do steel bushings compare with the poly for sway, etc.

If the bushings are new, wether there metal, poly or rubber, your not going to see any give in them enough to cause any sway. It's only when the worn out that you get that condition. Rubber and poly bushings will give you a little more cushion and won't transmit road noise as mush. If all you need to do is a ball jiont then go with it and pocket the money and time of converting over.

I would have to think the steel bushings that comein our trucks would offer much less than rubber or polly. I don't think the newer control arms will just bolt on to your cross memember You'd probably have to get the cross memeber and all. You can get disc spindles that will fit directly on your 69 ball joints and tie rods, cutting down expense and work. If all your joints are good i'd do that.

Thanks guys, I think I will go with the metal bushings and just buy ball joints. low69cst I have the whole shooting match from the 87 already blasted and primed and the drop spindles are Belltech from another 87. All I have to change to make it work is the lower ball joint to use the 87 spindle, I retain my control arms but use caliper and rotor from the 87.

THANKS AGAIN GUYS!!!!!
