Pics of my new project!
Well guys give it to me easy... can I do it? How bad off am I? 42,000 origional miles, only new truck grandpa ever owned, first truck I ever drove! Running 307 just needs a tune up. The obvious is sheet metal. Those of you that have had to deal with rust throw me a bone... bottom of cab and all under bed is pretty bad. I want to do a full restore to make it a daily driver that only comes out in fair weather! No need for show quality I'll never sell it!

Re: Pics of my new project!
to the board. That don't look so bad. Looks like a great start to me. Mine doesn't have cab supports at all let alone a nice chunk of one left
Hows the interior look? Mike

Like that word original. Body will take some time, but it sounds like there is some incentive there.

I'd join. Got my gramp's 68 with a 307, too. And a lot more rust than you, so does that mean I am winning?

Re: Pics of my new project!
I have seen those coils before, it is on the shock and not actually on the leaf pack itself. Im guessing it's a redneck overload spring or something similar. My grandpa's old motorhome had them too, I don't believe they were a factory option.
BTW nice truck. It could have either the T221 or the NP205 transfer case, the NP205 being the more desireable of the two. Welcome!

Re: Pics of my new project!
Ill get a couple more pics on here shortly. Have any of you tackled rust of this magnitude? It seems I will have to replace every support under the bed and most of the sheetmetal in the bed!!

Re: Pics of my new project!
Can always grab a better bed and cab from down south sometime. Just keep a little fundage packed away for when you get the opportunity to grab some nice metal, and all will be good.

Re: Pics of my new project!
Here's a few more pics... What is the deal with coil and leaf suspension? Was this factory or did he add them on?
This tailgate does not close, he told me it is not origional any you experts know if a different year had different hardware/brackets? Thanks for the input! |

Re: Pics of my new project!
That definitely is a 73-87 tailgate not a 67-72

Re: Pics of my new project!
Awesome truck - very similar to my 69 K20 so I'm digging it. Cool that it has the 4 on the floor. Mine had the 3 on the tree - hated that!
You will have a Rockwell T-221 transfer case, Dana 44 (heavy duty but that doesn't really mean much) closed knuckle and it should have the Eaton HO52 rear axle. Is the glove box option decal present. If so, list that info for us. Oh, welcome to the board!

Re: Pics of my new project!
I was in the same position as you are about five years ago. Since then I've finished the frame, suspension front and rear, brakelines, drop spindles driveshaft, moved the gas tank to the rear, replaced almost everything on the frame. This was done in spurts, sometimes I wouldn't touch it for six months
Just finished all the patch panels on the cab, rockers, kicks, floors, corners. I bought a wire feed to do this. I also have all the repro sheetmetal I need as well as lots of new trim, tilt wheel, vent windows, bumpers, bed wood. I've dropped approx 10 maybe 15 K Can. and will spend at least 5 more on parts. I still need to paint and assemble. The engine and tranny are servicable for now. I expect to be finished by the end of this summer, I wouldn't be suprised if it was next. Do I have the time, money and skills for this? NO Sometimes I regret taking it on but I know I won't in the end. I'm definitley not trying to discourage you or say it will be the same for you. I would suggest that you ensure you have long term storage and work space close to your home. Good luck and I look forward to hearing your posts.

I've never seen coil and leaf suspension before. Do you have a picture of the glove box option sheet?

Re: Pics of my new project!
NICE!!!!!!! Love the color. And your garage looks about like mine. Best wishes on your project and keep safe there in Kuwait! Mine wasn't my Grandpa's, it was my uncle's. I bought it from him for $2500 this Sept. and he drove it off the showroom floor the same year my dad bought his. My eldest brother got my dad's, but that's okay, plenty of memories with this one, too.
