Avatar and pics of engine swap

I finally figured out how to resize the pics of my trucks and used one as my avatar, the rest are of my K-2500 I bought from the original owner and the progress I am making in putting a sb 400 and 700r4 in it. At some point down the road and sufficient funds I want to do a frame off.

That engine looks great a little paint on the frame and firewall would sure make the engine compartment complete..

Re: Avatar and pics of engine swap

Thanks for the compliments. I wish I had more time to spend on the engine compartment detailing but I need to use the truck. Like I said one of these days it will get a complete tear down then it will all look good.

Re: Avatar and pics of engine swap

Looking good. It looks easy to put a motor in with no sheet metal around.

Re: Avatar and pics of engine swap

Nice truck. What was wrong with the 455? Did it go good? How was the fuel mileage? If my 305 ever blows up, I'd be interested in putting a 455 in it. Kinda curious about this. Looks like a nice truck to bomb around in.

Re: Avatar and pics of engine swap

How hard was it to adapt the 455?

Re: Avatar and pics of engine swap

The previous and original owner built and installed the 455 after the 350 dropped a valve at 98k. He did a fairly good job not hacking anything but slightly massaging the fire wall to clear the valve covers. Not sure why he did this when moving the engine forward 2 inches would have made it clear. Engine stands were fabbed and bolted to the frame. A turbo 400 was used with an adapter between it and the transfer case adapter.
The engine always ran hot and performed poorly, I think there may have been a problem with the way he put it together. I have run olds engines before and had always been pleased with their performance.
The engine is sold and may let the fabbed mouts and trans go if any interest is shown.
