"The engine is a matching numbers correct dated engine, (Engine code/VIN stamping), but believed not the factory installed engine."
Correct me if I'm wrong but didn't the musclecars have part of the car's vin stamped on the engine, hence a "numbers-matching" car? If so, and it's NOT the "factory installed engine," I don't believe it would be worth that much.

Re: Yikes! Someone bid on it...OT
that there's my dream car but not my kinda money i had a 70 ss 396 ht in high school and now have a 68 ss convt that i bought just out of school in 80 thats been in storage since 85 awaighting my restoration skills to be worthy of tackeling i don't think any restoration is worth that kind of money if it were a brand new oraginal it would still be over priced in my book but that don't mean i don't want it

I could think of 100 better ways to spend 600 thou. than on a ls6 chevelle. It is a nice car though.

Re: Yikes! Someone bid on it...OT
heh... When I bought my Burb it had a dual snorkel air cleaner from a 1970 LS6 Chevelle (non-cowl induction hood). I found out what it was when I bought the truck on eBay and I was offered $300 for the air cleaner from some random eBay member after the auction ended.
I listed it and got almost a grand for it (like $985 or so). This is why they'll pay $1000 for an air cleaner... |

Ebays going to put The Barret-Jackson out of business (lol). Watched some of the car auction last week, They sold a one of three Olds built for $3,000,000 flat. Alot of cars seamed ( I dont realy know) to go very high. Alot of the rare high priced stuff is being bought by Museums. The guy who won the Olds didnt have a lid, would pay any price. It went to a museum in Colorado that should be open in september if I remember right.

Re: Yikes! Someone bid on it...OT
I keep wondering where these super "rare" cars keep coming from. Like the camaro a while back. I would like to see some hard core documentation on these things.

Re: Yikes! Someone bid on it...OT
The market will fall out from under them one day, it's already happened once in the early 90's. Million dollars for a car is crazy. I fully understand and respect teh rarity of some of these rigs, but still... He said something about 25 year loans on the Q&A... what would the monthley payment be for something like that? $1200 a month care note?

Re: Yikes! Someone bid on it...OT
Looks like the bid is not going to hold.
Hello, my father accidently bid on your car. I need to retract that bid. No one would ever pay that much for a Chevelle. Thank you. Jan-05-06 A: Okay, I left you alone for almost 24 hours. If you dont retract your bid in the next couple of hours, I will consider it valid. Thanks!

Re: Yikes! Someone bid on it...OT
If the car is numbers matching, perfect and original 1/10 of that price would be a reasonable bid.
I could easily see a genuine LS6 Rag Top Chevelle go for 65K.

Re: Yikes! Someone bid on it...OT
This thread reminds me of the guy here in Michigan that wanted 150k for a 57 chevy convertible. If you guys read my thread about the fuel pump on my son's suburban that went out on our trip to Florida, The dealer in Muncie Indiana that fixed it had a completely restored 57 chevy two door hardtop that was as nice as any I've seen and he was asking 40,000 for it. I can see him getting it too it was that nice. The prices they're getting for some of these cars is nuts but if someone is willing to pay it I don't blame someone for asking it.

Re: Yikes! Someone bid on it...OT
i can see somebody asking 100k for a 57 convertible because i have seen some that would make better parts cars if that go for 8-10 thousand as for the chevelle that is way to much money

Re: Yikes! Someone bid on it...OT
Don Johnson's 'Cuda was a clone. If it was the real thing it probably would have doubled that price.
B-body, factory hemi cars are going for near $100k, and they aren't anywhere near as sought after as the E-body cars. |

Re: Yikes! Someone bid on it...OT
Not only was Don Johnson's Cuda a "clone", but it was a poorly done clone. It had parts from a 70, 71 and 72 cuda so nothing matched!

Re: Yikes! Someone bid on it...OT
A concours restored boss 429 mustang sells for $120,000 to $180,000. No way a non numbers matching LS will sell for that. Real Hemi Cuda's sell for near a $million.
