For Sale: NOS 69-70 Outer Grill
I'm selling off this NOS 69-70 outer grill. It's in typical NOS condition. No dents, no dings, no scuffs or scratches. It has a couple of those very, very faint crimps in the creases from the stamping. All grills had them to some degree from the manufacturing process. Could probably use a polishing to get rid of the fingerprints, etc. $425.00, which will include shipping and insurance via UPS to anywhere in the continental United States.

Nice looking piece. I thought NOS had black highlights and black letters.

Re: For Sale: NOS 69-70 Outer Grill
It's NOS for certain. Repops, at least the ones that I have ever seen, don't have the CHEVROLET stamped in the cross bar. You have to use decal letters. I've had a few of these over the years. Only one or maybe two that I have had were highlighted with black. I think, depending on how you polish it and what you use, the black can come off in the buffing, cleaning, polishing process. I don't see any traces of black highlights on this one. It could easily be highlighted if someone wanted.

Re: For Sale: NOS 69-70 Outer Grill
Repros are available with stamped "Chevrolet" for more money than the plain. Not bucking your claim, but Cheyenne10 is correct, there should be black accent paint.GM never used stickers for the letters. The last n.o.s. 69/70 grille I bought (@ Chevy dealer) in`88 was accented.

Re: For Sale: NOS 69-70 Outer Grill
This came out of the subcontractor in Michigan that used to stamp these for GM.

Re: For Sale: NOS 69-70 Outer Grill
Special K...I think he is saying the "repops" use the decals, not NOS.
Where do you get repops that are stamped CHEVROLET? I was sure only GM NOS had the stamped letters. GM won't release the license to put their name on the repop grills while they still sell the originals-NOS. |

Re: For Sale: NOS 69-70 Outer Grill
Several parts catalogs (Truck Shop - Filling Station) list repop Chevrolet grills stamped with letters. If they were NOS, I am sure the company would say "genuine GM" but that is not listed.

Re: For Sale: NOS 69-70 Outer Grill
I've never heard of repops having the CHEVROLET stamped in them either. None of the board members on here have them.
I checked the Filling Station's website and they do list a '69-70 outer grill with lettering as original. It's priced at $525.00. That's NOS pricing to me. So, I called them. They told me that is actually an NOS grill. They said that repops don't come stamped because the royalty is ridiculously high to put the Chevrolet stamp on them.

Re: For Sale: NOS 69-70 Outer Grill
It does look good, especially for $200. That's a deal to me. Most of the vendors are selling the repops without letter for closer to $300.

Re: For Sale: NOS 69-70 Outer Grill
1970 CST: Congratulations, you got a real GM NOS grill...that is what the Truck Shop sells for their stamped grill...and yes they are pretty thin.
They now sell them for $365 and oversize shipping is added to the cost. |

Re: For Sale: NOS 69-70 Outer Grill
I actually just talked to the Truck Shop as well. They probably got a few calls today courtesy of this post. They told me that repops are not available with the Chevrolet stamped in them. You have to go NOS to get that. He has two NOS ones left right now. $575 each, plus $40 or $50 for shipping.

Re: For Sale: NOS 69-70 Outer Grill
I found one vendor who had an advertised price for NOS at $380 and they estimated $35 for shipping. BUT, they don't have any in stock right now. It seems like not too long ago you could get these for low to mid $300's, but I don't think so anymore. Our board vendors who actually have any in stock seem to be $429 to $511, plus shipping.

Re: For Sale: NOS 69-70 Outer Grill
There doesn't seem to be much interest in this. I always try to list parts on the board for a day before putting them on evilbay. I went ahead and listed this. The link is:

Re: For Sale: NOS 69-70 Outer Grill
True or false? A NOS part has a GM part# anything otherwise is a GM licensed part. Why ? The last grille I seen was sold for $300 in a GM part# box. That was 6-7 yrs ago at Charlotte. It had the black in the letters. Know the guy that bought it.

Re: For Sale: NOS 69-70 Outer Grill
An NOS part is a genuine GM part that has never been installed or used in any way. New old stock, as in sitting on a shelf somewhere. Like it or not, this part is a genuine GM part.
1. This part came from the stamping factory that was subcontracted to make these for GM. That's as legitimate as if it came out of GM itself. A lot of genuine GM parts came out of subcontractors. I know exactly where this part came from first hand. 2. The part is stamped CHEVROLET. Despite what anybody says, there is NO repop 69-70 grill that has stamped letters on it. 3. These grills should originally have come with black highlights. That's true. In my opinion, this part was "obtained" before the part got to that stage of the manufacturing process at the stamping factory. The black highlights are very easily added. I also contend that the black highlight paint can be easily removed, on purpose or accidentally, depending on how you polish or buff one of these grills. These grills could be obtained not too long ago for $300 to $350. Any vendor that I know of that actually has any of these wants at least $400, plus shipping. This grill is perfect. It is show quality NOS. If you want the black highlights, you will have to add them. I know a lot of people that don't like the black highlights anyway. Quite frankly, the price I'm asking for it, including shipping, is fair. People on this board complain when you list a part directly on ebay and don't offer it here first. Yet, when you offer it here, pretty much all people can do is pick it apart. I've got a few of these, both 69-70 and 71-72. Anybody who has ever dealt with me on this board knows that if I am not 100% certain about the origin and the facts of a part, I wont sell it. This part is what I say it is.

Re: For Sale: NOS 69-70 Outer Grill
GM got into the GM Restoration Parts business in the early`90s when demand went up and old stocks were gone. These were reproductions with the GM stamp of approval. They weren`t available exclusively from GM dealers, though. Then,GM got back out and they are sold through vintage vendors and licensing is sold to manufacturers.
BTW,I think the price is right on this grille.I guess the "re-issues" weren,t accented.

Re: For Sale: NOS 69-70 Outer Grill
One further note that goes along with what SpecialK said - The Jim Carter Classic Truck Parts catalog lists the following:
Grill Bezel 69-70 From GM tooling, with Chevrolet letters $375.00 69-70 From non-GM tooling, no Chevrolet letters $295.00 71-72 From GM tooling $375.00 71-72 From non-GM tooling, but looks exact $295.00 Now are those from GM tooling NOS or repops? I would call them repops.
