common problem?
I have a 67 gmc. When I turn on the headlights, the dash lights don't work and the gas gauge goes to below empty. the high beam indicator comes on and the left turn indicator does also. All of the exterior lights work. Is this something anyone has seen. I was figuring it was the headlight switch.

Re: common problem?
I've never seen it, but I would check the printed circuit board on the back of your cluster. Make sure it's not burned somewhere. The PCB is the only thing the lights and gauge have in common since the gauge doesn't run through the switch.

Re: common problem?
I agree with Wibilly, sounds like a ground problem to me.

Re: common problem?
Grounds are almost always a problem on these trucks.

Re: common problem?
There are two possabilities,
1. Bad ground on inst panel. 2. an inst panel with accessory guages, on a truck wired for dummy lights. Honestly is kinda sounds like the latter to me, however, make yourself a ground from the 'tin' on the back of the inst panel to the dash and see what happens. |
