Progress Pics: Interior updated, no more tweed!
After a long day of fighting with the bull, we were able to get him to cooperate and wrap the headliner insert panel and door panels. The hides turned out quite nicely. On the first of three hides that I bought for the project, we were fortunate to land a branding mark on an area that would wind up as scrap. The inside of the cab, the A-pillars, and the rear cab corner panels have all been wrapped in a comfort suede. The carpet was going in about the time I left this afternoon. She is turning out nice. Here are a few shots!

I think we will wind up wrapping the dash pad with leather so it will better match the seat and panels. The instrument panel will be painted to match the suede. The goal is to have it ready by February 1st. Dean

Re: Progress Pics: Interior updated, no more tweed!
Couple of questions for you:
How was the leather priced, is it way more expensive than cloth or vinyl or just a bit? Was it similar to install as vinyl would be. or harder? I plan on going leather myself, IMO there is nothing like the feel and smell of leather. I will install the seat heaters prior to the leather, my wife loves the heated seats in our 03 Passat. Since telling her that it could be done I don't think I can get away from redoing the seat without the seat heaters. Mike |

Re: Progress Pics: Interior updated, no more tweed!
As far as the price, it was a lot more than I wanted to spend, but I think it will be worth it once it is finished. It was priced by the square foot. One hide was 58 square feet, one was 57, and the other was a massive 67 square feet.
It seems to be a little easier to work with than vinyl as it gives more. I will be adding the new cooling ventilation system to mine (since I live in the deep south). The heaters come with that system. www.seatcomfort.com They also make a unique wireless remote operated massage system. Hmmm? Quote:

From the pics it looks like the dash pad would look better with the Cinnamon Sorbet on it. It's gonna be killer. You planning on making anything near Texas this year? Hopefully my 77 will be done soon and I can hit a few shows this season....

First off, thank you! So many people confuse a swish for a lisp! Secondly, it's more of a sasche' than a swagger. I feel pretty... (LOL) As for the dash pad, I was thinking about that yesterday and mentioned to my buddy that is doing the work for me. He quickly informed me that "that was gonna happen already! I have already decided that! You just remember that you might own the truck, but it's mine!) Walking away with my lip poked out and head hung low, I exclaimed, "Okay, Sorry!" For as the Texas run, I have not thought about it yet. I would like to hit some shows over there with my Relaxed Atmosphere brothers. If not, I plan on being at Showfest in Greenville.

I'm very familiar with Brookhaven......nice town, and that truck of yours looks great! What did the steering column come out of?

Re: Progress Pics: Interior updated, no more tweed!
Bubba,
I traded the shaft radio that was in the truck when I bought it for the steering column, from the previous owner. I believe he told me it was out of a '77 Chevy or GMC van. Don't hold me to that! I have been mis-informed by previous owners in the past. I had the guy that I bought the truck that Palf70step now owns tell me that it had a 350 in it. Recently, we have all learned that it was actually a 305. I still feel terrible mis-informing Bill about that. Sorry, didn't run the numbers on the block. Dean

Hey Krue, you planning on making it up for the first Saturday cruise-in for February in Byram? I am planning on having it ready for that. Also, the next weekend, during the Dixie Nationals Rodeo, there is a truck show in the Trademark building of the State Fairgrounds. We are planning on having it on display in CS Soundoff's booth at that show. A small token of my appreciation for the hard work they are doing on the interior. Plus, a lot of people think that they just do car stereo or just work on newer style vehicles. By the way, Thanks!

That leather looks excellent.
Could you describe some of the process for stretching and glueing that you used. I've done some leather work (arm rests, and book-binding) but never anything this big. I'd love to hear more.
