Question tail light ideas?

Im trying to come up with ideas for the tail lights on my 86 shortie. Im going to put on a roll pan for sure, and dont know wether to get one with the 'vette style lights, LED strips, or just plain and put Caddy lights where the factory ones are. does anyone have ideas or pics of custom lights?

Re: tail light ideas?

I am just partial to what they came with from the factory . Most of the trucks I see with another type of light looks out of place to me . Thats just my opinion . I dont like clear lenses either except on Silver trucks . On a silver truck , I would definitely run a clear lens . I have seen a silver truck with the clear , factory style lights and it looks great . If you are dead set against factory , then I havent seen 70-73 Camaro tail lights on a truck yet . Frank

Re: tail light ideas?

And now I have seen 70-73 Camaro lights on a truck . I imagine they would look good in their original configuration (side by side) in a fleet side roll pan . They look good in the step side . Frank

Re: tail light ideas?

Don`t put them in the fenders whatever you do.87stepper`s are clean. It all depends on your overall look you are going for.I don`t do body mods(except maybe a roll pan),so I like vintage Stepside or Model A lights.

Re: tail light ideas?

I heard from a friend of mine that they are coming out with Euro style taillights for trailor style rear lights like on Jeeps, Stepsides, etc....

... let the ricificatin begin.....

EDIT

OK I shall eat my words... these things look cool to me even if they are silly Euros. I think once my truck is painted dark green the chrome housing will set off really nice.

Here's a couple ideas.

Re: tail light ideas?

Here is another option. These are off of a 2003 Monaco RV so they don't have a reverse light...

No that belongs to forum member LoBlazer. The rear bumper is a stock GM bumper. The lights below the license plate are reverse lights.

Re: tail light ideas?

Thanks Ken for putting my Blazer up.

As far as clear Monaco lights, I had mentioned this before.
When I travelled from Ontario to Florida last February I stopped at a Monaco RV dealer, Buddy Gregg in Tennessee. They had a unit there with three lenses. One red , one orange and one white. The young guy in service/parts was very helpful but had none in stock. He could order them for delivery in 3-5 days but unfortunately I was on my way up home not down for vacation so had no time. They were around $12-13.00 each.

When I got home I went to a local dealer and bought my red ones. They also come on Jayco trailers. I plan to put my backup in the centre where the window key is and remove the license plate one, hangs pretty low and I scrape it sometimes on driveways. I will remove the key housing and open with the dash switch or a remote fob.

If you can get white and put LED bulbs in it would look cool. They were all white, no red reflector.

I think a board member works for Monaco and said a while back that he could not find them?
For LED's try these new products made right here in Toronto and won SEMA 2004 top prize for new product. www.spiderlite.com
