Re: 1406 linkage??
Easy fix. Put it back in the box and send it back.
Check there web page they have the right adapters to make the rod fit.

Re: 1406 linkage??
Go to the Edelbrock website and look for "Throttle Rod Shoulder Stud — Chevy"
I put a 1406 on my truck a year or two ago. Somebody here suggested that part to link my stock throttle rod to my new carb. I did have to bore the shoulder stud out some for the stock throttle rod to fit. But that was easily accomplished with a cordless drill.

Re: 1406 linkage??
I used 1/4" x 28 female heim (rod) ends and a 1/4" threaded rod. Locked them in place with jam nuts and covered the threaded rod with aluminum tubing. Used 1/4" allens with nyloc nuts. Fit all the holes perfectly and took the bind out of the linkage due to the crooked a** bend that was in it. Pulls reallyl smooth too.

Re: 1406 linkage??
Just drill out the linkage. I've done it on 3 or 4 AFB carbs.

Re: 1406 linkage??
I found some pictures of the Edelbrock throttle rod stud on my truck. I'd be afraid of the linkage binding by just using the rod by itself. This piece was made to attach your throttle rod to your new 1406.

Re: 1406 linkage??
it won't bind... at least mine hasn't on any of my trucks, that's all I've run on my trucks since 98 or so when I got my first truck.

Re: 1406 linkage??
Wow thanks again!
So that one uses the BIG hole! I filed down my rod to fit the small hole! IN THE PICS what is the ball chain you have in the small hole? |

Argueably that is the best upgrade I've done to the truck. I had it on the 2bbl/3-speed manual. I moved it to the 2bbl auto when I upgraded that. Then I moved it to what you see there - the aftermarket 4bbl on the new 383. I love it. It is "programmable" to work in all of the above configurations. I'd still be afraid of your linkage binding without the proper piece. How does that song go? "Now I know how Richard Petty feels!" About the spacer... I bought a spacer and factory 4bbl air cleaner off the parts board years ago. I painted them all up waiting for that engine you see in the pictures. My truck is 4wd. When I went to set the factory air cleaner on the Edelbrock with the non-factory manifold and the carb insolator/gasket, the air cleaner hit the firewall. I went so far as to try a air cleaner off of one of da-burb's 4x4s to see if there was a difference in the air cleaner base or spacer height. The cleaner/spacer that fit his factory quadrajunk hit the firewall on my set-up. The manifold/spacer/carb is too high. SOOOO to make a really long story short - if you have a 4x4 you need a spacer and an aftermarket air cleaner with a smaller diameter than stock.

My moter wasn;t running when I installed it. So for the vaccum hose can't I just wait till it is running and do the tumb check at idle? Anybody have a air cleaner spacer 4 sale! Looks like I need that too....isn't it fun! Last edited by 67chevemall; 01-25-2006 at 05:28 PM. |
