Guess I'll have to pick another color.....

I had decided to paint my blazer an 06' Mitsubishi color sunset pearl which is somewhat similar to the copperhead color. When I went down to the PPG store to get the paint code was I in for a shock....616.00 per gallon!
That was only for the paint not including the hardener, reducer, clear etc. This color had really grown on me....I guess I've have to look for something not quite so spendy.

Re: Guess I'll have to pick another color.....

Are you not going to do that nice of a paint job, or do you just not want expensive paint like that getting ****ted up in parking lots etc??? $600 seems reasonable for your "dream" color, unless its going to be driven daily i guess (and why shouldnt it be! )

that's a bummer, good luck

Re: Guess I'll have to pick another color.....

I guess I've never paid over 300.00 a gallon for paint before. I'll be driving it 2-3 times a week and not really worried about parking lots. It's going to be my camping rig to pull my trailer do some moderate 4wheeling. I've got some time before it has to be painted so I'll try to find a similar color that's not quite so expensive.

Re: Guess I'll have to pick another color.....

I would see about getting a custom color instead of a already mixed one,
I had a guy do me one back in 90 for my firechicken and it saved me alot
on the color I wanted, which was a slight variation of a Lambo Yellow

Re: Guess I'll have to pick another color.....

LUV2XLCR8,

Thanks for the advice. I orginally was going to use the same copperhead color as I have the mix sheet available. I haven't checked the price on it as I thought it would be even more expensive as it was a custom mix. That's why I checked on the factory Mitsubishi color.... I thought because it was a factory color it would be cheaper. I'm afraid to check on the Copperhead color. I'm going to keep checking on different variations that are reasonably priced until I find something close.

Paying big for your hearts desire is what these trucks are all about, IMO.

Yes, that's pretty pricey paint but would it be worth it for the result you want?

That answer is entirely up to you.

Re: Guess I'll have to pick another color.....

After checking some other similar colors and not really being too impressed I decided to take my mix sheet back to PPG and see what the cost would be for copperhead pearl. To my surprise it was a hundred and twenty bucks cheaper! They told me the Mistsubishi color was so expensive because it had Chromeillusion in it which is very spendy. The copperhead color is 1:1 so I'll only need about three quarts. That will end up being a little more that half what the other paint would be. So the final verdict.....COPPERHEAD PEARL!

Re: Guess I'll have to pick another color.....

Believe me, I cannot wait to get this thing painted. I've had this truck in various states of disassembly since 03. I bought it without a motor from Washington then towed it to California. The very next year I moved to Washington and then moved the whole thing here. What started as a partial resto has become a complete frame off. I probably won't have paint on it until March as the frame and undercarriage are being undercoated right now and then the bodywork and primer will finished from the front pillars back. I am going to install the engine and tranny before I mock up the front fenders and hood. I was hoping to have everything together by summer....but then there's 3/4 running gear I've got to get swapped in as well. I'll try to get some pictures up by next week!

Chromeillusion , that's awsome, no wonder it cost so much..... this would just make me want the paint that much more..

so how many gallons do you need for a blazder?

Re: Guess I'll have to pick another color.....

I was told (by the PPG guy) that if I was not painting a hard top and just painting the bed and body that I would not need a gallon but that it would be more than 2 quarts. The copperhead pearl is 1:1 ratio so they told me about three quarts would be O.K. It's about 130.00 a quart not including reducer, hardner, clear etc.
