LTI Wouldn't cost too much and make the truck a beast. Or even cheaper a TBI 350 and a 700R4.

WOW! That's incredibly clean for an Ontario truck from the Salt Belt.
To answer your question, your engine is the 2.8L V-6. It was known for getting a leaky rear main oil seal at times, but any engine can last if taken care of. You have throttle body fuel injection on that engine, a pretty basic and reliable system. The 2.8L engine was a step up from the base 2.5L 4-cylinder engine, but not the high-end option 4.3L V-6. If you're looking to do a swap, the 4.3L would be easiest for you and give you more than enough power for an S-15. Good luck!

Re: 1987 gmc s15 v6 2.8 l
well i was not even thinking of putting a new engine in it cause it does lack power but other then that the motor is ok.
i just bought this truck last weekend the truck is orignaly from BC the owner bought it there and drove it to toronto where it sat in his driveway for 1 year till i came by and scooped it up im just thinking of little things to do to it to get more power like a bored carb/or new if there is one for my truck? also will this work on my truck?http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...RK%3AMEWA%3AIT or would i get this 1 http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/CHEVY...QQcmdZViewItem Last edited by popparipper; 01-28-2006 at 10:15 PM. |

Honestly there isnt too much one can do with a 2.8L except upgrade it to a 3.1 or a 3.4L or SBC. Crane and a few other make a couple performance cams for them but you have to deal with installing the million and a half vacuum lines. I wouldent waste money on a chip, you can do a few free mods like advancing the timing and adjusting the carb but you have to knock the plugs out of the carb for that. I'd just get it running as best you can and drive it.
It's a nice clean little S truck!
