New guy here. I've been wanting a 71 or 72 Blazer for about 15 years, and now I finally have the space and some money for one. However, I need to be able to do some light hauling and I'd like to know if a 4x8 sheet of plywood will fit in the back of a Blazer with the rear seat removed.

Sure, a blazer will/can haul lots of stuff.

You have basically 6ft x 4ft to work with.

15 years is a long time to go without. Another thought might be a utility trailer

I was almost born in my dads 72 Blazer. There was a snowstorm but the Blazer got them to the hospital just in time. I've always wanted a truck like his, but by the time I could drive they were a rare beast in MO.

Many years have passed and I'm in WA state now. They're not so rare up here so I've been plotting how to get one. My wife and I just got our first house (and garage!) so now I finally have a place to work on one. We're the DIY types, so it's a no brainer that we need a truck. I just wanted to make sure that we could get plywood, drywall, 2x4s, and other junk that we'll need for the house.

I'll definitely have some type of trailer. Since I haven't had space for a truck, I started working on old motorcycles to satisfy the urge to bring old wheels back to life. I'll need a trailer for bikes if I'll be buying or selling any more.

I'll be asking buyers questions here soon. Is there a FAQ for buyers here or somewhere that I can refer to?

Welcome to the board from the other side of Lake Washington.

I've hauled many sheets of plywood, drywall, backerboard, railroad ties, etc in the back of both of my rigs. Since most home improvement has happened during the warmer months, I have had the soft top on and usually just unzip the rear window and let the boards rest on the top of the tailgate (with a blanket so they don't scratch). I have hauled a few things with the hardtop on, just don't try to drive with the hatch up. Leave the tailgate open and put the hatch down.

I've always wanted to run a trailer made from a longbed painted to match, but funds and storage space are preventing that.

How much are you looking to spend? I can help you keep an eye out in the area if you want.

Once you get a rig, make sure you lock it up. Someone tried to steal my '72 out of my driveway a couple months ago. These old rigs aren't very secure and are an easy target. I can only assume that it my rig would be in parts on ebay by now if they had been sucessful.

Ask all the questions you want regarding Blazers in this section, except offers to buy. You'll need to be a paying member (blue name) in order to do any buying or selling on the board and keep it to the proper section of the board.

Hey Bouncytruck, I'm actually in Kenmore, so we're practically neighbors!

I'm looking to spend as little as possible, but that's relative isn't it? I've seen a couple around here for 4k+ lately, but I'm not ready to buy just yet. I'm in "reasearch\$aving" mode right now, just stacking cash and learning as much as I can until the right one comes along. A while back I saw one at some car dealer for 9k. It looked really nice from the pics, but that's a bit rich for me.

I don't really want to pay extra money for something with a huge lift kit, big tires, and whatever other 4 wheelin accessories that somebody has put on it. Nothing wrong with that stuff, I just like a more stock look and would probably remove those things anyway. However, I would pay more for little or no rust.

Convincing my wife what something like this is worth is another story. Everytime I show her one that I've found she still asks about the "blue book value".

Medicineman - I guess that salt is not a problem here, at least close to the Sound. I don't know about up in the mountains where it snows more. I thought I knew a lot about cars, who made what model when, etc. When I moved here from MO I was amazed at all of the old cars here that didn't rust away. I never knew that not all Volvos before '98 were square!

Thanks again for all the answers about hauling stuff! I really didn't want to get a truck instead of a Blazer!
