Im probably crazy but....

I decieded to restore my 77 GMC K1500 Royal Sierra...I ordered up floors, cab supports, rockers, and cab corners. The bed is junk, doors are shot, fenders are junk, and im gonna try to save the hood and rad. support. The frame is in very good condition, 116K on the 400 and TH350-NP203. Im gonna rebuild the 400, put in a 700R4-NP208. All new brakes, steering box and other parts, all new interior...

I plan on getting this done by August/September
Think its possible??? I've got a lot of work ahead...take a look.

Re: Im probably crazy but....

Well...I have two other parts cabs in better condition, both 2WD, but both not a Royal sierra(kinda rare model, although nothing special). I know it would better easier, quicker, and prolly come out better to use a better cab, but I'm also learning how to weld(probably not the best thing to practice on)but ill start with the floors and supports and work my way out. If it doesnt come out well im losin a little sheet metal and time, but gaining experiance!

Re: Im probably crazy but....

I am planning on doing my 71 LWB truck in a months time. I have all the parts acquired now. I'll be cutting the bed down to a short, pulling the body off, cutting the frame down to a short, replacing my rockers, putting the body back on, installing my air, tilt and cruise. I think it's possible. I can cut the bed down and welded back together in a weekend. Pull the body off in less than a day. Replace the rockers over 3 days, cut the frame down in a weekend, put the body back on and get the air, tilt and cruise installed in a couple of days. It really helps that I have the equipment and the help of my son. We have done enough of these projects that it doesn't take us long at all. After the 68 Camaro I did, this truck is minor. We put new quarters, tail and floors in this car.

Re: Im probably crazy but....

I think it is possible. Just let the family know that you won't be anywhere but the garage and work until it's done Seriously I think it it possible with hard work and dedication. If you post pics on here on your progress we can help all we can on helping you.

What cab differences in there on a Royal Sierra? I thought there was only the badge emblems.

Re: Im probably crazy but....

Well I picked up the inner rockers tonight...$11 a piece, they look like they are what i need. Im just waiting for my dad to take his cap off the bed...It wont fit it the garage with that on, and I dont think it will be fun working outside in 30 deg weather...

I did get the hood and fenders(and inners) with only 1 broken bolt, nothing a little heat, WD-40 and some Vise-grips couldnt solve!! Once the bed is off im gonna put the gas tank behind the cab with rubber lines so i can disconnect it and put it outside while welding....metal removal is almost complete, i cant wait to start adding it again!!

One question...has anyone ever bought Veng door shells?? they list for $156, $6 more than Goodmark, but w/o shipping costs...and if the Veng doors fit real bad, my buddy at Advance will let me return em. What do you guys think? Anyone know what GM doors(new) cost?

Sorry for the long post, Thanks guys!
