Emergency Brake Question - The 1947 - Present Chevrolet & GMC Truck Message Board Network

Have a 68 GMC 3/4 4x4 that I am trying to get back to original. I have all of the components for the emergency brake system, but it does not seem correct. There is a round metal rod in the front (right side) that holds a guide for the wire cable. Does someone have a picture of where the end of the rod passes through the frame? Is the rod different for a 4x4 due to the transfer case location?

hey erl my emergency brake has never worked either i hav a 69 chevy 4x4 1/2 ton if u ever figure it out please tell me

I just fixed my brake too....I don't think it really matters where you run the cable...4x4 or not....I have a 68....it should be the exact same mechanism....you have the hand brake right? all you need to do is have it all centered and tighten the bolts from the long threaded bolt/cable from the hand brake. it doesn't need to be super tight or you will start to apply the ebrake. leave a little bit of play in the cable. If you haven't done it before, you'll see what I'm talking about. On a 2WD, the trailing arms run next to the frame bar, and on the frame bar almost directly under the cab is a part that the drive shaft goes through. Like a crossmember. Well on that cross member there are some holes and such that you can run the cable through, but you have to undo the cable to run it through there. i think it's similar...I hope I helped a bit..

The cable on the drivers side is the ajustment cable and the passenger side is the guide. I'm not sure about 4x4, but on the two wheel drives, the cable on the passenger side runs over to the drivers side and you have a rod with threads and a couple of nuts to put tenision on the cable. The best I can remeber is the rod on the passenger side just hooks in the frame with a loop for the cable and then runs to the drivers side. I maybe wrong on this, for it's been awhile since I fooled with them. Hope this helped.

Per the measurements I gave them. Ride height of truck inside spring and inside diameter of springs.
