Installing new floor, rockers, etc, advice??

Hi all, I'm installing new replacement floor panels, rockers, and cab corners in my '79 Scottsdale.
Does anyone have any advice for me? I am wondering why, on the floor panels, they leave the outside lip so long (leading downward towards the rockers where the inside half of the rocker panel meets the outside)?
If anyone has been through this procedure and has any advice I would greatly appreciate it! I am also installing a rust free southern box, and new doors and fenders, so I hope it will be good for another 500,000 KM !
Thanks,
FD
