Need help from TH350 experts
I had to drop the pan and pull the shift shaft on my tranny (to replace the seal). There's a long round deal connected to the shift mechanism with an ess shaped piece. I need to know if the notches in that piece should be up or down?

Re: Need help from TH350 experts
That notched piece is your main valve. The notches, I believe, face toward the valve body. The s shaped piece sits in a hole on that valve and can only go in one side of it. The other side of the s connects to your shift linkage piece that you had to take out. Also, make sure you get that shaft nut tight or after a while it will back off and you'll have to drop the pan again, no fun.

Re: Need help from TH350 experts
Krue,
Have you had much luck with your TH350? I had one in my 64 Shortwide behind a healthy 327 and it slipped all the time and was slow to go into gear when it was cold. I finally put a TH400 in it, what a fun swap that was. But that thing hooks up like it never did before. I was just wondering if you have had simalar problems with your TH350? JRB |

Re: Need help from TH350 experts
The part circled runs all the way to the arrow and I need to know if the notches in that point up or down (with tranny installed in truck).

Re: Need help from TH350 experts
I have a book by Ron Sessions that I used a lot when I rebuilt my TH350 several years ago. I took a look at the section that has instructions on installing the manual valve. It doesn't say anything about the orientation of the slots. I'm guessing it doesn't matter. Here's a picture that shows the manual valve removed from the valve body, with the "S" linkage installed.
This picture would indicate that the notches would face down. |

Must be the only way it will go. Good, all I need to do is get a new filter, button it up and put some fluid in it (where it should stay now.

Did the shift shaft seal tools we talked about not work?

Re: Need help from TH350 experts
No, I couldn't get the seal out with it. It wouldn't get a grip on it, so I had to pull the shaft and get it out the hard way. BTW I found the tool for $16 shipped on ebay.

Re: Need help from TH350 experts
Could you hook me up with the ebay vendor? I can't seem to find my seal puller anymore. I'd like to order another set.
