best/cheapest hi-flow catalytic converter?

well, i guess i got to brake down and get some catalytic converters on my damn truck to get a "modified" sticker

anyone got any suggestions?..

.i wanted to just find some used ones, gut them out, put pipe in them, and have them welded on ....as long as it "looks like i've got cats" thats all they check for here when ya get a sticker

don't know if i'd say it was the best but i got a dynomax super converter from Jeg's for only 53.99. it's been on my truck for over 2 years now and have had no problems with it. it even made my 40 series flowmaster sound way deeper over my stock cat.

that sounds cool....only problem is i got duals...so i need two of them

i guess those are "high flows" huh? i def dont want anything restrictive...since i got dual flowmasters

Are they going to allow dual converters? I know different areas different laws but Swervin thought about that as well when he had to have a cat and duals. It had to be factory with a single cat to pass. If anything you might look for a dual inlet/outlet cat if you have to stick with one. Or even better get a cheap exhaust setup just for inspections then replace it with what you have after you're done.

yeah, they'll allow dual cats here in "by god west virginia"

they just look under there real quick, at a glance, just see there on there...they can be hollowed out, it dont matter....but i've called all three muffler shops around here to see if they have any used cats that i can hollow out and replace with a straight through pipe....all the shops here dont have any used ones

Usually you have to replace a single converter with another single mounted in the same spot. This is because of the heat generated by the converter. The original mounting location has factory designed and installed heat shielding, and the second location will not. That is how it was explained to me.

The impression I get from taking to people is that most inspectors don't know or don't care just as long as it has converters. You should probably ask the person who will be completing your inspection before you have the work done.

My truck came with dual "Charlie Brown" brand converters, and one of them is installed backwards. They look like they were welded in with coat hangers, possibly by a monkey with a torch. This is the hot setup that you want...

Nobody has ever checked to see if it has any converters, let alone how many. I really hope they keep the 25 year rolling exemption for emissions equipment here long enough for me to eventually be exempt. Ours is the only big county with no emissions testing in the state. <keeps fingers crossed>

yes the dynomax super converter is a high flow converter. i got the $53.99 one and it worked perfectly. don't think you can beat that price anywhere.

where i live in virginia if it came with one cat you can only have 1 cat.

AMEN!! I got lucky in that they say mine never did come with them but it actually did I'm in the 25 year category now so I'm happy for sure. All safety inspections from here on out

My understanding is that California stopped using the rolling exemption, meaning that the year for exemptions there will no longer change every year. All of the other 49 states seem to eventually follow what California does. I still have 5 years to go, and I am afraid that we will start emissions testing before then or do away with rolling exemptions altogether. I would hate to have to maintain emission controld forever. That could be quite difficult.

Since your in "west by God virginia" too I would suggest going to a junkyard and buying a couple then Gutting them They don't do the sniffer test here any way they should just give you a deeper rumble(if you gut them).

$54.00 is a good price for high -flows. I paid $60.00 each for the generic ones on my truck 2 years ago.
