Has anyone had any problems with a one piece oil pan gasket? I got one from Summit (I think it was their "brand") and when I got it, it was a universal one with tabs on both sides for the dipstick.

Well now after swapping out engines, I got an oil leak somewhere at the back of the motor and I'm thinking it's either the oil pan or the rear main seal. I retorqued the bolts on the pan but I'm still dropping oil.

I've used 3 Fel-Pro 1-piece gaskets with 0 problems, they've all had the dipstick tab on both sides of the gasket. Don't have a clue on the Summit brand gaskets, never used them. Hopefully it's not the rear main seal though...those tend to be "fun" to replace.

Well I did some more research and found out that is was a Fel-Pro, not Summit brand and that they are supposed to be installed dry. We installed with RTV and now I'm thinking that might be the cause of the leak. What do you think?

And yes, I got my fingers crossed its not the rear main. Don't want to deal with that at all.

Rear main's not as bad to replace as it sounds, really. On my Fel-Pro, I ended up using a little RTV because I had a new oil pan, and timing chain cover, and it was leaking oil from where the two meet. I used some RTV and never had any problems.

my two pennies are unfortunately placed on the rear main. It is a pain, but not undoable. Drop the pan and unbolt the oil pump and rear main cap and there you are. Put the new one in at an angle so the the seam in the seal does not match the cap.

They are supposed to be installed dry. With the exception of a dab where the timing chain cover and block meet on both side. Then the rear main area where the one piece gasket tabs go, it needs both side just like the front.

I had to take the long road to figure out why my front crossmember kept filling up with oil. That was why, I didn't put any sealant on the timing chain cover. So that's where it leaked and ran down to drip on the crossmember and fill up the lip full of oil.

I used the Felpro 1 piece without any problems. I put a dab of rtv at the timing chain cover.
