1970 short wide bed truck ? what to do?
i bought a 1970 chevy swb with a 292 motor and three on the tree.
motor is locked up body is in great shape has rust on the rockers and a spot on the front fender. my question is should i get the 292 working or should i just drop in a 327 or 350 and be done with it. the 292 is the orig motor. which would be the best for re sale? no power stering or brakes and has 6 lugs the truck was a one owner the orig owner just put in new lifters and didnt finish he got sick and never finished all he needed to do was to put valve cover and reinstall ac comp. |

Re: 1970 short wide bed truck ? what to do?
gary... I have the same truck, yr, etc, except 4 on the floor...not sure if that is oem or not. I bought a crate 350HO to put in it and am getting either the turbo350 or 700r4. I figure I can pay now and get a fresh motor or pay later, when I am on a road trip in Egypt and the motha pops on me because it has 400,000 miles on it! BTW, I just had mine beadblasted and found some interesting things...
good luck

Seriously, don't throw away the 292, out of all the inline engines GM made, that is the best of the best. There are lots of people who admire such a fine engine and they're great for (straight line) racing builds!
