First exhaust system
This is my first stab at this. One question-do you think I should weld in the muffler or use clamps. I can take it completely apart if I use clamps. Sorry about the pics. Got to get a new camera!

Beautiful work there.
All I can offer is, normal exhaust clamps will crimp the pipe enough that it's not readily able to be taken apart later. If you decide to use clamps, use "band" type of clamps. They don't crimp the pipe like the "u-bolt" type does.

Looks great, I vote weld and then coat with a stainless high temp exhaust paint on the weld beads. My exhaust contains no clamps -- my hangers are also welded to the pipes. I did not run a crossover so that I can still drop eachside off the engine more easily if needed. Are those Flow Master 50's?

Real nice job! Can't believe this is your first exhaust system. Where did you get the bends and tubing and what gauge did you go with?

I would reccomend the stainless band clamps. I tacked the pipe to the muffler in 2 spots just to help hold it from twisting. The band clamps do not have alot of holding strength the weld helps them out. I also welded te hangers to the pipeone less spot to start rusting. I used VHT flame proof silver paint.
I also did put in a H pipe each side can be droped seperatly thanks to a joint in the center using two 3/8" thick flanges with a copper gasket between them. Like a headder to collector connection only you have thick flanges on both sides to promote a leak free seal.

i would recomend clamps seeing as i hate welding mufflers on (dont use the u bolts clamps though) because the muffler went out on my pos f-150 and the idoit that but it on welded it and when i muffler shop took it off they ended up having to replace the whole system 800 buxs geeeeezzzzzz Just.my $.02

I can't see where they could justify an 800 dollar muffler job on an 87 model F150.
Even if the had to cut some of the pipe back to get to undamaged pipe, they should have been able to splice in a 1 foot section either side of the new muffler without getting that extreme.

Wow guys, that's the most response I've ever gotten! The mufflers are Delta 40's and all the pipe is 2.5 aluminized. This is a cheap way to go. It consist of three 4 ft straight pipes and 4 J bends. It is a lot of cutting and fitting though. All welded up with a Hobart 135 MIG. Tubing from Summit. Hope I covered questions. Thanks for the input on the clamps. Danny

Will you be running an under bed tank as shown in your avatar? If so how much room do you have between the tank and pipes. I like the way it comes though the cross member behind the rear dif.

Yes, I am running a No-limit aluminum tank. I had No Limit to shorten the tank about an inch and one half so I would have room for the exhaust pipes. It is a tight fit but I think it will work. I'll post pics when I get it all together.

What about using header flanges welded to the mufflers and the exhaust pipes so you can take it apart and have it plated? We use this on all the exhaust systems we make so we can plate and it makes it easier to re-install.
