Re: flame throwers
Whats the cheap way to do it with a spark plug?
Edit: I found it http://www.skepticfiles.org/new/054doc.htm Auto Exhaust Flame Thrower by The Jolly Roger For this one, all you need is a car, a sparkplug, ignition wire and a switch. Install the spark plug into the last four or five inches of the tailpipeby drilling a hole that the plug can screw into easily. Attach the wire (this is regular insulated wire) to one side of the switch and to the spark plug. The other side of the switch is attached to the positive terminal on the battery. With the car running, simply hit the switch and watch the flames fly!!! Again be careful that no one is behind you! I have seen some of these flames go 20 feet!!!

Re: flame throwers
Yeah, the kit above kills your ignition so you send raw fuel out the exhaust. You have to have something to ignite. Just a spark plug is not going to work unless you are running really rich (which you don't want to do all the time).

Re: flame throwers
this is a REALLY bad idea.... You have RAW gas washing down the cylinder walls, thus removing all oil and lubrication from the engine. Ive seen it first hand...if you want to ruin your engine, go for it, it will work, for awhile, then you;ll be putting in a new engine.
If you want flamethrowers, install a propane kit and plug in the tailpipe. My two cents J ________ Beeman Quick Cleaning Pellets 100Ct Last edited by Jayss109; 04-27-2011 at 11:34 PM. |

Re: flame throwers
well this is kinda right up my alley. be forewarned that small block chevys don't like this at all. you WILL kill your engine. flathead fords handle this very well, though.

Re: flame throwers
A buddy of mine -- kind of an old school hot rod gearhead -- told me I could put a V8 distributor on my L6 and run two of the wires back to bungs welded in the tail pipes [yes it has dual exhaust], to get the flamethrower effect. I knew he was kidding because the V8 dizzy is too short on the shaft and too wide next to the block to actually fit. Also it wouldn't run right at 1-5-3-Miss-6-2-4-Miss.

Re: flame throwers
i am from the south and kinda slow ,but if I used the simple system , its saying a 12 volt battery can make a spark plug fire,i don't think so ,thats why we use a coil ,you put 12 volts in get 16,000 volts or more out . its the high voltage out that fires a plug . now in the olden days then motors blew 30/40 % of your fuel out the tail pipe when running ,put a constant firing spark plug on your tail pipe and bingo your a bad ass hehe even works on an old flat heads
PS this is really old school ---BTW the 200 dollar unit is nothing but a switch ,note you supply the coil and the plug ,don't confuse this with coil with your engine coil two different coils to sum up for my Yankee friends two wires from you battery to input on a coil --put a simple switch on one of the wires so you can turn your toy off and on .coil out put to the spark plug in tail pipe and bingo your a redneck like me, fire shooting trucks always gets the girls laffin |

Re: flame throwers
I wanted to put a propane kit on my truck (I work for a propane company), the only problem with that is that I would probably forget that I tow trailers sometimes and torch the front end of the trailer.

Re: flame throwers
Here is the link to the kit that I installed on my CST. It works great.

Re: flame throwers
Jayss109 is correct when he tells you that the traditional way sends un-burnt fuel through the exhaust valves and out the manifolds. Because you have to run fairly rich It will cause the fuel to run past your piston rings and into the oil pan destroying the viscosity and eventually with enough use cause some serious damage.
What you get in an off the shelf kit is basically a 10.00 relay in a magic "sparker box", some o2 bungs, connectors, wire and if your lucky a coil and plug. How many would pay 100.00 pluse for that? The most effective way is to plumb the fuel line from the fuel pump using N.O.S valves then N.O.S nozzles about 8" from the spark plug. It will atomize the fuel and allow you to light up without killing the ignition and while going down the freeway. Its pricey but it works well and won't damage the motor. You can even use it on emmission controlled cars cause you introduce the fuel after the cats and o2 Sensors. Just my opinion
