Cab structure question... What do you guys think? - The 1947 - Present Chevrolet & GMC Truck Message Board Network

Alright I need to get the bottom of my cab sandblasted so that I can paint it, however getting under it will be a pain in the arse, basically. With no doors, windows, or anything else on the cab, will it tweak it or hurt it in any way if we carefully tip it up on its front and let it set on the firewall?

I would so it on the edge of my car trailer, so it would have a bit of a slope back, and it would be on a padded cushion, and tow strapped down for stability.

I need opinions or expert knowledge here, as I don't want to do this if it risks messing up door fitment etc. later....

You will be fine if you lean it backwards (or forwards)...just don't "throw" it backwards.

I did this on my cab, and didn't have any problems. Be careful when tilting it, the front weighs more than the back (kind of like a TV set).

I didn't think it would be an issue, Jeff, but I wanted to check...

I would go on the back, but the rollcage bars won't allow it. That's why I was thinking tilting it forward and setting it on the firewall...

Trust Jeff when he says the front is heavy!

Had no idea it was so much heavier up front, so I nearly got squished when it came back down, LOL

I've seen some use inner tubes to roll the body into them and protect it while working on it. (I wonder if it moves too much while working on it.)

BTW, be careful with that smoothed firewall.
