New project "Afterburn"
I picked up a really pretty nice and burnt 72 custom long bed,3.5/3 drop, nice paint super nice bed and overall a nearly rust free truck. Has a couple a very small spots above the windshield and a half dollar on the outside of the passenger door. I got the truck locally from a fellow member Pegerine(sp) I looked at it 3-4 weeks ago and it too $$ for me at the time and he dropped his price called me to let me know and we struck a deal It has a serious carb fire tat pretty well destroyed everything inside the engine bay and the fire wall of the cab, however it didn't even burn any of the carpet and hardly any of the firewall insulation, but it sure smelled bad It will be a nice driver when I get it done, I have started and complete most of the tear out except the motor and brake booster(still holding pressure ) I tried to post pics here and I guess the new pic program I have isn't compatable with the board as it keeps saying invalid file So I went and posted it on cardomain and heres the link http://www.cardomain.com/ride/2297885/1 More pics on the second page.
I will be workng on it for a few months for sure a little here and there, the next big step is getting the motor out and maybe the tranny I've got a 700r4 in the garage Get the motor out and see what it up with it, got my fingers crossed, clean the front of the cab and cowl area and get it in some primer and then repainted red, not trying to show the truck just drive it and I don't care if it is a shade or two off I'm not painting the whole truck, just a driver anyway. I have nicknamed it project Afterburn which is silly I know but It seemds to fit well Anyway the link shows what I got done today, my step dad and I, mostly I are working on this together and are having a blast. I will keep updating as I go, LMK what you think...Randy

Re: New project "Afterburn"
$1200? nice deal. i remember the story about the fire, and the fire dept. messed up the grill, shouldn't be to hard to look through the history and find it. nice score. you saved enough money for a nice motor.

Re: New project "Afterburn"
Yep Mike that's the one, yeh the grill was toast for sure. I'm excited about getting it going, I got it home last Saturday and it stated on the trailer until yesterday, when I got the title transfered, then the work would start. I don't think I did too bad for 7 hours work as I did 95%of it myself. Ii would be nice if it went back together as fast and easy, LOL Randy

Re: New project "Afterburn"
I wondered where that thing got off to. I was lurking on it and waiting for price to come down and was thinking 1250 when it was at 1750. When he dropped it to 1200 everybody jumped on it so I left it alone. I guess it wasn't as bad as I thought at first. Love the name. Good luck

Re: New project "Afterburn"
Got a little more done on afterburn over the past week, got the firewall cleaned and ready to be blasted, pulled motor and tranny, bed, and cleaned all the old seam sealer out of the drip rail to get it blasted as well. Truck has been stripped down to cab and rolling chassis. Got it to the blaster this morning and picked it up this afternoon, he blasted the firewall inside and out and the whole dash, and the frip rail across the front of the cab and the bottom of the front windshield seal, and then primered all spots that were blasted.
Nexy step hopefully some sanding and some color in a week or so, so that I can get to putting it back together. Here are a few pics one before and two of it after I picked it up from the blaster.

Re: New project "Afterburn"
Woah, you're doing a great job on it! I'm glad she ended up in the hands of someone that could do her justice. I hope she doesn't give you any problems! Think you'll be able to use most of the motor or was it toast?

Re: New project "Afterburn"
Hi Bryan,
No the motor isn't hurt I don't believe, nor the tranny. It is going to slow down now as I have found a few rust issues in the lower part of the cab and it is going to come off the frame and go back to the blaster for a second round. But that will also give me some tome to save some money for the rebuild and upgrade of a 700r4 I have to help out on the fuel economy.THere is a lot more filler in the truck than it showed, but heck isn't that always the case!! Check in from time to time as I hope to have it done by in a couple of months, providing the money is there.
